ECS Elitegroup H55H-I (V1.0A) Pro Reviews

xbitlabs‘s review Edit

The ECS H55H-I has not surprised us in any way during our tests. It’s an ordinary mainboard with ordinary design and standard capabilities. It’s just like others. The good news is that we have not had any problems with it but, like with any other mainboard, there are certain downsides. Particularly, the H55H-I cannot lower system voltages or monitor their current values. Some related settings are located in different BIOS screens. There is no integrated BIOS update tool and no profiles with settings. The mainboard also sets too high memory timings by default. These downsides are not crucial, though.

ECS H55H-I is clearly targeted to users that want to build a small computer or an HTPC (home theater PC), and will certainly please customers that pick this product, as it has everything one should expect from a motherboard targeted to this kind of computer: small footprint, three different kinds of video outputs – including HDMI –, optical and coaxial SPDIF outputs and analog 7.1 audio output with independent jacks. The presence of an eSATA port completes the package.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

ECS desperately needs to up its game in the BIOS department: not only in clearly stating what the board can and can't do, but also introducing standard features available elsewhere: overclock failure reset, in-BIOS updating and profile saving are just a few examples. It's this reason that we still can't give the recommended stamp to this board. While we can't yet get this board in the UK (we're pressuring ECS on this) our US friends can already take advantage of this sub $80 bargain. Combined with a trip to our Project Log forum for inspiration, for a second system project to play around with it's potentially a great backbone to a budget build.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

On the bright side, you do get a 3 year limited warranty, which at least inspires a little confidence that ECS will take care of you if the event of a failure. To cap this all off, yes, the H55H-I is competitive with other mini-ITX products based upon its price and basic functionality, it makes a great little stock-runner or LAN PC. However, if you're thinking of overclocking with this board, we'd say that ECS is a couple of BIOSes away from a glowing recommendation - we'd like to see a little more finesse please!

motherboards‘s review Edit

The concept of a motherboard with an Intel Core i7 CPU in a mini-ITX form factor brings to mind the idea that good things can come in small packages. If you want the perfect HTPC, simply install a 73W CPU, a decent PSU, memory and a SATA HDD/SSD and a Blu-ray player/Combo player into a mini-ITX case and you have a powerful system in its own right not much bigger than a paperback book. With HDMI and DVI connectors the board has the most popular connections for HDTVs right now. If you want more power you can install a PCI Express video card and you have the ultimate in mini-ITX computers. ECS has therefore done a good job with the H55H-I motherboard.
