This weekend Google updated the YouTube app for Android smartphones running Android 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread to support HD video playback. Prior to this, the app would max out its stream at 480p resolution. Now it is capable of playing 720p video, provided you have a device with a 720p or higher resolution display.
