HIS HD 6870 Fan 1GB Eyefinity Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

A small overclock to the core speed and the support for HDMI 1.4 and 3D goodness, plus a decent amount of headroom for pushing the card further. Not enough of a default tweak to make much difference at the kinds of resolutions you'll use it with. The biggest problem, however, is that falling prices of Nvidia GTX 470s and Radeon HD5870s mean you can get an awful lot more performance for substantially less cash.

Overall, the HIS HD 6870 Turbo is as solid as any other HD 6870 card on the market today, which means it comes at a good price/performance ratio, offers low power consumption and excellent connectivity features. But this also means that the Turbo version does not offer anything a willing overclocker couldn't achieve himself - if he has the time and skills to do the necessary tweaking.

Compared to the reference HD 6870, and at the moment any other HD 6870 for that matter, the HIS version isn’t going to offer you anything too different except maybe a slight variation in the bundle. This is to be expected, though, as at the moment we’re currently seeing partners restricted to reference designs only. No doubt within the next few months, or even month, we’ll see companies begin to mix it up and HIS has two series we’re big fans of; the Turbo series which is their main OC line and the IceQ series which uses upgraded cooling. We’ve got our fingers crossed we’ll see the HD 6800 series with some lovin’ from these lines sooner rather than later.

When we first heard about AMD's new Radeon HD 6800 Series and the renaming bonanza that came with it we were quite sceptical whether the HD 5700 successor GPU had it in it to fill the big shoes of the HD 5800 Series. I have to admit I am pleasantly surprised by the product AMD has delivered to us. The new AMD Radeon HD 6870 offers substantially increased performance compared to the HD 5770: up by 56%. This alone almost justifies the different naming scheme.
