ASRock P55 Extreme4 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

If you want to take advantage of Intel's easily overclockable LGA1156 processors, the P55 Extreme 4 has everything you'll need to build the ultimate PC, and costs less than £100.

The new ASRock P55 Extreme4 is a nice option if you are looking for a mainstream socket 1156 motherboard and want to buy a model with four SATA-600 ports, one eSATA-600 port and four USB 3.0 ports. The front panel adapter with two USB 3.0 ports is definitely a really nice touch. Other nice features of this motherboard include support for SLI (remember, not all P55-based motherboards come with SLI support), on-board optical and coaxial SPDIF connectors, a POST diagnostics display, support for socket 775 CPU coolers, decent overclocking options, and a decent voltage regulator circuit.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

ASRock‘s P55 Extreme4 might look like a brilliant motherboard with plenty of useful features, but it performed below average in many of our tests, which is a disappointment for a P55 board costing around £120. While its auto-overclocking tools failed to work, manually overclocking the board was easy and straitforward, at least until we tried to push it too far and the board failed to recover without us clearing the CMOS. We had thought the days of clearing the CMOS after failed overclocks were behind us.

The P55 Extreme4 is a nice board. It combines some great technologies into one package. You have everything from PATA/Floppy to four port RAID for SATA 3.0. The option for a second pair of USB 3.0 ports is also a handy little feature. Plus, with its $149.99 price tag at NewEgg.com, it would be a steal for the gamer or prosumers looking for the most bag for their buck.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Finally, ASRock has quoted us a price tag that's less than what a truly premium P55 board would cost. At US$160 (and that's before taxes), the Extreme4 is around the same price as some of its rivals like the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P or the MSI P55-GD65 which have similar features but with fewer SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 ports. Of course, those boards have their strong points too, so in the end, it's a toss up whether you prefer the solution and direction that ASRock has tailored with this board.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

The Asrock P55 Extreme4 offers perhaps the best feature set of any Intel P55 motherboard at a relatively affordable price of $150. That's roughly the same as the P55 Deluxe3 only this board carries a pair of front USB 3.0 ports and two extra on-board SATA 6Gb/s connectors. Firewire support has been dropped from the menu, though we feel this is not something the average user will miss greatly. Those that specifically want Firewire support (or eSATA which this motherboard does have) should narrow down their options to motherboards carrying those particular features.
