MSI K9A2 Platinum Pro Reviews

hardocp‘s review Edit

The MSI K9A2 Platinum is a motherboard that was built specifically for running AMD’s Phenom processor and CrossFireX. If that is what you use it for it works well with a Black Edition processor. It can run stable and enjoys some healthy Phenom multiplier overclocking but you need to be aware that you need to put some airflow on the board’s passive cooling devices.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

MSI's K9A2 Platinum is the most value for money board in our roundup. Being only slightly more expensive than the DFI 790FX-M2RS, it is a fully-featured board that is comparable to the ASUS and Gigabyte. The only distinction is one less networking port; hardly something to complain about. The board also has the best overall layout design, and the most accessible when talking about upgrades. MSI's weakness however, lies with its unpolished software. Its BIOS is lacking in some critical features and MSI seems to still be experimenting with options.

A well laid out board packed with future-proofing features, including support for AMD's latest Phenom processors and - if your wallet will allow it - up to four graphics cards.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

From an overall layout and design perspective, there is much to like about the K9A2 Platinum. The ATX power connectors are placed optimally, the board comes with three chassis fan headers on top of the CPU fan header, and component placement was well balanced. However, there was one minor issue that we didn't care for.

ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

If performance is the main draw in your motherboard shopping habits, you're probably not looking for an AMD anything right now. But if you're an absolute AMD/ATI diehard and need to build yourself a Spider platform, performance alone still won't help you come to a decision between the Gigabyte MA790FX-DQ6 and the MSI K9A2 Platinum. The boards performed equally in almost every way. And while both boast features that supposedly sets it apart from the other, they're trade-offs.
