MSI X58 Pro Pro Reviews

bit-tech‘s review Edit

The £160 asking price means this is not only the cheapest X58 on the market, but the bottom line is that it's a decent board too, so if you’re desperate to adopt Core i7 and want to spend as little money as possible then overall the X58 Pro is definitely worthy of consideration. It has a solid set of basic features, but remember those chipsets need some extra airflow to keep everything cool and stable. The X58 Pro still offers a considerable overclock for a Core i7 920, though if our review sample is anything to go by, then don’t expect to be joining the 4GHz club any time soon.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

MSI's X58 Pro is proof that, as predicted, the X58 chipset price drop continues unabated. Just a couple of months ago we were reviewing motherboards that cost over £300, now we're getting ones that cost half that price. Unless, of course, you are actually building a retro-steampunk PC, in which case the X58 Pro's brown printed circuit board is made of old school win.

expertreviews‘s review Edit

MSI's X58 Pro slices around £50 off the cost of building a Core i7 PC, which is a significant saving. Despite this, it still has all the features that most users are likely to need and is quicker than any other X58-based board we've see. Core i7 still isn't suitable for everyone, with Phenom II-based PCs providing plenty of performance for less money overall, but if you need to build a powerhouse of a computer, this is the motherboard for you.

There's no denying the X58 Pro is a remarkable good value Core i7 motherboard but we feel that a grave error has been made with regard to the chipset cooling.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

MSI's X58 is, at the time of writing, the cheapest X58 motherboard on the market. Its low price may mean that it is a little feature-light compared to its more expensive rivals, but you do get all the basics and for many of us that's all we want. If you want to use the board as a basis for some serious overclocking, though, then you may need extra cooling on the chipsets.
