MSI H55M-ED55 Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Priced around £70, it's one of the cheaper LGA1156 boards currently available. It also eschews technological trinkets such as support for multi-GPU graphics technology. Yes, there are two physical PCI-e x16 slots. But if you populate both, only one delivers 16 lanes of bandwidth while the other is limited to four lanes. Most notable is the OC Genie button, MSI's auto overclocking utility. Flick the switch, reboot and the board takes around 30 seconds to discover what it reckons are the optimal overclocked settings.

Fudzilla‘s review Edit

The MSI H55M-ED55 went into the market eight months ago and retailed at €99,- which is much too expensive for our taste espcially considering the few accessories. The direct competition ASRock updated their H55M Pro with USB3.0 and costs about €66,-. MSI has reduced the price massively, now you can purchase it for about €76,- which is justified. The board was stable during our testing, has very good overclocking capabilites regardsless it's not branded as "high-end". Just forget about the 1-button overclocking, because it does nothing but load a pre-programmed BIOS setting, which we find quite lame. Otherwise an excellent board with all the basic features you will expect, so we can recommend it.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

Board layout is generally good. Like the ASRock H55M-Pro, you get two full length x16 PCI-E slots to use for expansion purposes (there are no dual GPU configurations with Clarkdale though). Onboard power, BCLK, and OC genie buttons are provided for open test beds, although we think the BCLK buttons are a little out of place on this board given its 4-phase CPU PWM that is not suited for heavy overclocking. Over current protection should kick in at around 120 amps, so heavy load benchmarking at high processor frequencies is best avoided.

MSI has some work to do on the H55M-ED55, not necessarily in terms of performance (although they do need some work there), but more in board design and ease of installation and use. They also need to take a look at HDD performance and see if they can bring it up to where it needs to be.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Finally, the MSI H55M-ED55 is, make no mistake, a very good board. Arguably the best in terms of power efficiency from our results, with a long list of features and quality components, it is definitely a top H55 board. The proprietary technologies like OC Genie enhance its value but only if you have a use for them, which we'll argue is not that essential for the H55 target group. You have to pay for those features however and its US$130 price will deter users who are not looking for the extras.

We like to thank our friends at MSI for providing the H55M-ED55 for our review today. I've had the opportunity to test several MSI boards over the past two years and it seems each year they keep adding new features as well as improving the overall construction and quality of their products. The H55M-ED55 is a great example of their commitment to quality boards that are geared toward overclockers and gamers. We saw good performance results in both of these categories during testing and were impressed with how flexibilty and feature rich the BIOS was.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

MSI has included a long list of features in the specification of this H55 motherboard. Add in superb build quality and it's no great surprise that the price is relatively high. That wouldn't be the end of the world, however the overclocking abilities are sorely limited, so for the time being we'd advise you approach this model with caution and hope that MSI revises the BIOS to improve performance.
