MSI X58A-GD65 Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

The MSI X58A-GD65 is possibly one of the best X58 motherboards on the market. Its layout, performance, and versatility do MSI a justice. For roughly 220 USD, it is an exceptional motherboard. We found throughout our tests that the motherboard not only performs well, but is extremely capable of overclocking. It's support of USB 3.0 and SATA 3 make it versatile and flexible to technology in development.

The GD65 is only attractive to those building an LGA1366 system on the very tightest of budgets, but doing so doesn't make sense – the CPUs and triple-channel memory are hardly cheap, so adding £20 to the build price isn’t a significant amount to get the best from these premium components. If you really can’t spend the extra £20, an LGA1156 system might be a better option, as is waiting to see what Intel’s forthcoming mid-range Sandy Bridge CPUs bring in early January. Either way, the GD65 doesn’t quite make it onto our Christmas wish list.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Finally, MSI continues to be very aggressive in terms of pricing, with the X58A-GD65 just undercutting the Gigabyte at S$359. While it was not exactly short of features, the MSI, like the ASUS was clearly trumped by the Gigabyte in this department. MSI even removed its OC Genie feature that has appeared on its newer motherboards. The performance of this board was also not convincing - it was left to compete with the Gigabyte in our benchmarks, with the ASUS clearly in the lead. On the bright side, this MSI board did well for our power consumption tests and for its price, you do get the same quality of components as its competitors.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

MSI has added SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0 to a relatively basic Core i7 motherboard and has managed to deliver plenty of hardware for a very reasonable price. We found that the BIOS delivered some questionable information about voltage settings but once we'd checked and double checked our figures we were able to overclock very successfully.
