MSI Big Bang-XPower Pro Reviews

xbitlabs‘s review Edit

MSI XPower mainboard turned out too complex to be given a definite characterization. This is a many-sided product, but not all of its sides are brilliant, unfortunately. To cut the long story short, the board comes in high-quality packaging, is accompanied by an outstanding set of accessories, has very smart and convenient layout and extensive functionality, MSI Control Center utility is useless, the board is extraordinarily energy-efficient in nominal mode and inexcusably wasteful during overclocking.

If you are looking for the most complete socket 1366 motherboard on the market for your Core i7 processor MSI Big Bang XPower is definitely your pick. Besides coming with tons of features, the military-grade components will give you the peace of mind knowing that your computer will provide a higher efficiency (i.e., lower power consumption), will heat less and will provide a higher life-span. The six PCI Express x16 slots will allow you not only to build an extreme SLI or CrossFireX configuration, but will also allow you to install several video monitors.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Yes, it's reasonably expensive even though, to its credit, MSI has tried to keep the price down, but it's a basically a niche product for the enthusiast. It could even make the basis of a decent workstation, because you do get an awful lot of motherboard for your money.

MSI has built a great performance X58 board in the Big Bang XPower. We liked the Big Bang Trinergy for P55, but MSI has built an incredibly solid motherboard in the XPower. The XPower is one of the best X58 motherboards I have personally used. It is forgiving while being very aggressive. It is solid running even while being baked at 56C for days. It has all the newer features you could want on a motherboard. And it does it all while turning in some extremely good overclocking numbers. At $300, the MSI Big Bang XPower represents a great value in an X58 motherboard. I hope to see MSI keep turning out such fine engineering.

overclockersclub‘s review Edit

The Big Bang Xpower is a board that is targeted at the gamer and enthusiast. At $299.99, the price tag is not at the extreme end of the spectrum and is quite competitive when you consider the feature set and its construction. With the Xpower, you get the latest technologies in USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s, DrMOS, Hi-c Caps, Super Ferrite Chokes, support for up to three or four video cards in a multi-GPU setup along with some serious overclocking credentials. The Xpower has delivered performance that won't cost you both an arm and leg. MSI has delivered a stout piece of hardware that is worthy of addition to anyone's wish list.

The MSI Big Bang XPower will be a force to be reckoned with. The MSI Big Bang XPower has the features of an Extreme Board at the low price of $299.00, which is a comparable price to many main stream boards!

AnandTech‘s review Edit

We’d love to give the MSI XPower a global recommendation, but unfortunately can’t until the overclocking disparity we experienced against other boards both in voltage and frequency improves. While the XPower is cheaper than the other three boards on test and fares a lot better in power consumption tests, there are a plethora of boards under the $300 mark that can overclock better on air and water cooling (models from ASUS, Gigabyte & EVGA). Okay, you give up some of MSI’s bundle, but the extra peripherals don’t add up to much when high frequency low voltage operation is preferred by most users who purchase high-end memory kits.

MSI is re-inventing themselves. We said this before and it bears repeating. They are working hard to overcome the issues they had a few years ago with product performance, stability and quality. We were very pleasantly surprised that all of our questions, comments and concerns were addressed. Even the ones that could not be fixed right away were and still are being worked on. The PCMark issue is still not resolved, but as we did not see this translate into poor real world performance, we are not overly worried about it. In the end the board performed well with a few exceptions.

motherboards‘s review Edit

MSI has hit a home run with their XPower Big Bang X58 motherboard. With support for 6 core Intel CPUs like the Core i7-980X and 970 this board has the ultimate in flexibility options for motherboards in this class.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Finally, the most 'affordable' of the bunch at S$519, the MSI Big Bang-XPower, obviously has fewer features in order to fit its average ATX form factor. That's not to say that MSI didn't manage to cram in some enthusiast friendly touches, like its OC Genie (it too has voltage check points) and the same, costly components as those used by its competitors. However, the limited space did lead to a less than ideal layout, though to be fair, it's a minor quibble.

The Big Bang XPower motherboard continues with MSI's new goals of becoming a powerhouse in the world of high quality PC components and the result here is pretty impressive. If you are looking for a motherboard that offers a great combination of overclocking features, high quality components, added extras and graphics expandability and can afford a slightly higher price for the job, the MSI Big Bang XPower is a great option!

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Adding SATA 6Gb/s and USB3.0 support to an X58 board makes a lot of sense as it future-proofs it for a good deal longer than would otherwise be the case. MSI Big Bang XPower certainly lives up to its name, offering a big bang for an equally big buck. The price tag might scare many but, believe it not, for this money the board is actually quite a bargain.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

There's not a ton to say about the Big Bang's benchmark results—it performs exactly like an X58 motherboard should. If we widen this to include its power consumption, integrated audio, and additional features, this motherboard stands out more clearly. The XPower delivers on its promises, as long as you remember that some of its features are only useful to a small niche' of enthusiasts.
