The Cowon X7 looks like an old-fashioned PDA, and its touchscreen isn't significantly more responsive - but appearances can be deceptive. The X7 proves its worth on long journeys with a huge battery life and rugged build quality, both of which are highly unusual in a touchscreen device. Musos will love the X7 for its huge capacity, stunning sound quality and extensive file support, and though those same qualities should make this a decent option for watching movies on the go, its screen isn't the best around - either to watch or to touch - and video file support is poor.

The size of the Cowon X7 will prove too much of a turn-off for some, but its storage, sound quality and all-round versatility more than justify the burden for those with big-enough hands and pockets.

The X7 isn't as pretty or as glossy as some of its rivals, but if you want a big, good-quality screen, great sound and an unfeasibly massive battery life, this is the media player for you.
