GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 1.0) Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

This ATX board does almost everything, but it’s expensive and we’d have preferred more SATA3 ports at this price.

The crown for best integrated graphics processor (IGP) goes back to AMD with the 890GX chipset and its Radeon 4290 onboard. Never mind that SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0 hardware have barely started making an appearance in the market. This particular model from Gigabyte manages to cram all the features that you might want your motherboard to have, taking a mid-term view of 2 years down the road. The Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H is a very good choice if you are going to purchase a desktop PC based on an AMD processor.

Gigabyte has done a great job with the 890GPA-UD3H motherboard. You can purchase this motherboard at Provantage for a mere $127.33 plus shipping. It supports the newest USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps technologies and does not even require a video card since it has integrated graphics supporting HDMi, and DVI out. It will also support CrossFire with an x8/x8 physical connection. It is a very solid overclocker, and very stable to boot. The Gigabyte the 890GPA-UD3H looks to be a very good value in a socket AM3 motherboard.

overclockersclub‘s review Edit

Like the 790GX motherboards, the 890GX can not run CrossFireX at full x16 speeds and when both cards are installed it will be at x8/x8 bandwidth. Even with these issues, the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H is an extremely versatile motherboard that offers better performance, support for current technologies, and overclocks much higher than older AMD chipsets. This board comes highly recommended!

Has everything you'd want from an AM3 board with integrated graphics, but the price will put off most people.

xbitlabs‘s review Edit

Gigabyte's 890GX-based mainboard, the 890GPA-UD3H model, is a typical product that has all the traits of this brand's earlier Socket AM3 mainboards. As opposed to the above-discussed ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, there is nothing unusual about the design of the Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H. It is quite a pleasure to use and offers a traditional selection of interfaces.

tweaktown‘s review Edit

Overall, the GA-890GPA-UD3H is not a bad board, especially with its $140 price tag, but GIGABYTE has some work ahead of it to optimize the BIOS so that some of the issues we saw are lessened or removed completely. However, at the time of this writing we really cannot recommend it if you are interested in the 890GX chipset.

The GA-890GPA-UD3H is a pretty nice little board with only a few issues that we could find. It seems like it would fit nicely into any mainstream build or even an office PC. The problems that you might face would be if you add in a high-end graphics card. For some reason this simple act causes a reduction in performance that we did not expect.

motherboards‘s review Edit

GIGABYTE has a well-rounded board here with the 890GPA-UD3H motherboard with good performance, good feature supported by both the chipset and other chips. The inclusion of USB 3.0 ports on a 890GX motherboard is a no-brainer as the other standard, SATA 6 GB/second is supported by the chipset natively. USB 3.0 support is added by a NEC chip. Performance was very close to the other 890GX chipset board I’ve tested and this board is available online for a price of $149.99. If you’re looking for a start to a decent computer without coming up with the extra bucks for an external graphics card this is one of the more cost effective solutions when paired with an AMD CPU.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

As for the two boards featured in this article, they reflect the mainstream nature of this chipset, with ATX and mATX form factors readily available. Both are modestly equipped while having all the key features that one expects from a modern, mid-range motherboard. Performance-wise, they do not differ by much. The Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H however stood out for its layout, which is almost perfect.
