T-Mobile myTouch 4G Pro Reviews

phonedog‘s review Edit

The myTouch 4G is one of my favorite devices I've used to date. The 3.8-inch screen is a decent size and after carrying a Motorola Droid X for months now is a nice weight change in my pocket. It's very thin and light, but packs a punch with its 4G speeds and exceptional battery life. The price is only average at $199.99 with a two-year agreement, but definitely worth it. The myTouch Sense user interface simplifies Android quite a bit, which can be fairly confusing to first-time smartphone users. This device is great for first-time users and smartphone veterans alike with its impressive specifications and simple UI.

Phone Scoop‘s review Edit

For T-Mobile Android fans, the only devices that are serious contenders with the myTouch 4G are the Samsung Vibrant or the HTC G2. With the tethering option available for an extra $15/mo, the myTouch 4G is an easy choice to make for the highly-connected user.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Finding themselves at the same price point of $200 on-contract, the overall performance and meaningful offerings with the T-Mobile myTouch 4G far better substantiates itself as the device with the more bang for the buck. Sure there are some impressive hardware niceties with the Nexus S that aren't found with the competition, but the things that matter the most with people are found with the the T-Mobile myTouch 4G – like its better photo taking ability, HSPA+ connectivity, and solid construction. Granted that it's one software version behind the Nexus S, there is no doubt that we'll see Android 2.3 Gingerbread grace the handset down the road as well.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

If you can overlook the poor battery life it exhibits, you'll find the T-Mobile myTouch 4G to offer a high-level of performance that will appease almost anyone in the market for a smartphone. Just about everything radiates a polished feel, and fittingly, it can be regarded as one of the best handsets available on T-Mobile's lineup.

MobileBurn‘s review Edit

I'll give it to you straight. If I was going to buy a new Android phone on T-Mobile today, I'd buy the myTouch 4G without a second thought. I would miss the Super AMOLED display on the Samsung Vibrant, but the myTouch 4G has a top-notch hardware design, its call quality was excellent, and its data speeds rock. Its battery life suited my needs for a full day of use, and its camera was fun to use. My biggest complaint about the myTouch 4G was its user interface, but that's purely an opinion and I'm sure there are plenty of people that will like it.

Engadget‘s review Edit

Overall, the myTouch 4G hits almost every checkbox when it comes to features and functionality, but sadly misses the mark completely when it comes to aesthetic and "purity" of the Android vision. In T-Mobile's attempt to make a consumer-friendly phone, we'd argue they've driven in the other direction. Luckily, many of our qualms with the phone can be chalked up to personal preference, and a power user could potentially finagle a stock Android ROM onto here, so we'd encourage any prospective buyers to check out the phone for themselves before we fend them off entirely. For the rest of us, we'll keep dreaming of the Nexus Two that this phone most assuredly isn't.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

It’s hard to argue with the T-Mobile myTouch 4G; this is definitely one of the best Android devices on the market today. At 3.8-inches it’s a sensible compromise over MID-scale superphones, and it certainly has the speed to keep up with what Froyo throws at it. We wish there was a replacement battery cover on offer – it’s a sheet of metal and adds noticeably to the overall weight of the phone – though if you thought the Samsung Vibrant felt too lightweight then this extra heft might appeal.

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

T-Mobile has just made it harder for its customers to choose a new smart phone--in a good way. Not only does the T-Mobile 4G offer a slick (albeit hefty) design, but it has fast HSPA+ speeds and strong overall performance. Users looking for a lighter device and a brighter display should pick up the Samsung Vibrant, although it lacks 4G speeds, while those who prefer a physical keyboard should opt for the G2. However, neither of those devices feature a front-facing camera or hotspot capability. We'd like to see the quality of Qik and Yahoo video chats improve, but overall the myTouch 4G is an excellent smart phone.

Though video chat isn't ready for prime time, there's plenty to love about the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G, including its speed, sleek and sturdy design, and great call quality.

Macworld‘s review Edit

T-Mobile and HTC definitely have a real winner here with the myTouch 4G. The powerful processing speeds paired with HSPA+ data speeds is hard to beat when it comes to watching videos and browsing the Web. The camera is also quite good (though the camcorder's microphones aren't the best). If you don't have HSPA+ available in your city however, you might want to hold off on buying a myTouch 4G until coverage is expanded. You won't be able to make video calls over the network unless you have HSPA+ connectivity (you can still make them over Wi-Fi though). Even in a city where it is supported (like San Francisco), HSPA+ still has a ways to go for area coverage.
