ASUS M3A78-T Pro Reviews

pcstats‘s review Edit

With the M3A78-T you can run a socket AM2 processor now or upgrade to a socket AM3 Phenom II and enjoy the benefits of AMDs latest architecture without splurging on more expensive DDR3 memory. However, when a motherboard tries to fulfill the roles of an IGP and gaming platform, it's often the case that it masters neither one.

If you are about to buy a new AMD motherboard, this one showed great overclocking prowess on the front side for older Athlon X2s. Maybe we will see the same with Phenom II CPUs. With the ASUS M3A78-T at $140, it still all makes me go, “Meh,” and grow a big rubbery one. Maybe Phenom II processors in January will give us a reason to get excited about the M3A78?

We'd like to thank our friends at ASUS for providing the M3A78-T for our review today. Using this board with the 790GX chipset was an absolute pleasure and AMD has truly made some giant strides in the integrated graphics arena. There are many reasons and uses for onboard graphics as a primary video solution, and with the integration of HDMI and HD 1080p support, I can see many HTPC users foaming at the mouth to upgrade their current home theater setups with this technology.
