I think we can all sit back and say Asus knows how to make a nice motherboard. Not only does this board overclock well but it looks good and is rock solid for anything I through at it. The competition is steep though. Gigabyte has their 790FXT, MSI has their GD-70, DFI has their 790FXB, and Asus has the top Crosshair III ROG board. Pretty much everybody board is sitting in the same bowl where features and performance is concernd so the real question is price. Every single one of these top end boards are under $200 currently on Newegg which in my opinion has Intel beat. With the product in question though, Asus has the M4A79T priced above the other companies enthusiast boards. Is it really worth the extra 10-20 bucks? I say yes, you can't beat exceptional quality from a good company.

Overall, there's a lot to like about the ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard. It's not a bargain piece, but the capability and performance that it brings to the match make it a solid recommendation in my book.

While we slap Asus on the wrist for a hardly overwhelming "out the box feeling", we have to point out it's the only AM3 board that worked from the get-go. Everything worked without tricks or hacks, new core drivers or BIOS - that's a testament to Asus's R&D at least. In addition to this, Asus commands very strong performance figures, overall product quality and good overclocking. While better in some places, it lags in others when directly compared to the competition or even the older model it succeeded. A solid product, but not the best.

We'd like to recommend that anyone buying an AMD-powered PC invests in an AM3 chip so as to future-proof their investment, but we wouldn't blame anyone for waiting for a more powerful CPU to appear first.

With every new ASUS board that comes out we see them improving quality and features. The M4A79T Deluxe is definitely one of the best AMD boards we have seen with the ASUS logo branded on it. Not only does it use the high quality 790FX chipset, but it also now has the improved SB750 with additional SATA ports. AMD may not be the highest performance processor, but its price sure does compete. You can build a competitive rig with two or more GPU's and a large memory capacity.

The Asus M4A79T Deluxe is the first Socket AM3 motherboard we have seen and it is a very good partner to the latest version of Phenom II.

However, when one looks at the other two competitors in this roundup, some of its minor faults became more prominent, from the less than ideal layout to the chipset heatsink that got in the way of our CPU heatsink. It suffers slightly when compared to its rivals in terms of the features available, like only having a single Gigabit LAN controller. Finally, its price is at a premium for what it has, albeit more reasonable than some ASUS products that we have seen. It's a good choice nonetheless especially if you don't need the extras offered by other brands.
