ASUS P5E3 Premium/WiFi-AP @n Pro Reviews

pcstats‘s review Edit

Considering that ASUS is asking $390 CDN ($320 USD, £220 GBP) for the P5E3 Premium Wifi-AP.N, it would be nice if these flaws didn't exist, but as it stands they're relatively minor. The P5E3 Premium/Wifi-AP.N motherboard's built-in Wifi, extensive external storage options and expansion capabilites make it unique in terms of feature set. Where deep-pocketed enthusiasts are concerned, the combination of Intel's fastest chipset, the ability to use the fastest socket 775 processors, and support for the fastest DDR3 memory will make the P5E3 Premium/Wifi-AP.N a must-have motherboard!

As far as DDR3 motherboards go, the ASUS P5E3 Premium is the one to have. It is a solid product that deserves a spot on your short list if you are in the market for a highly overclockable motherboard sporting the latest Intel X48 chipset.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

Although the board's exceptional overclocking abilities cannot be overlooked, the wonderful design and layout, along with the liberal use of just about every possible high-quality component imaginable, and an extensive feature set makes the P5E3 Premium one of the most "well-balanced" platforms we have ever tested. ASUS has shown us that a great overclocking system does not need to be built around a very specialized, stripped-down motherboard nor one that is full of glitz and glitter that does not serve a true purpose. It is clear to us that ASUS put forth a great deal of effort to ensure the P5E3 Premium delivered the goods without compromise.

The P5E3 Premium is just a refresh to the P5E3 Deluxe, so there's no immediate reason to upgrade if you are a current Deluxe owner. However, if you're in the market for a new motherboard, the Premium variant has the advantage of DDR3-2000MHz support in an overclock mode, an additional PCI Express x16 slot (but limited to x4 lanes), ASUS EPU (Energy Processing Unit), and the newer X48 Chipset.

Overall, we'd consider the Asus P5E3 Premium to be an exceptional product. If you plan to build a new Intel-based rig using a Wolfdale or Yorkfield CPU, do yourself a favor and put this motherboard on your short list of potential candidates. It will likely carry a street price in the $269 range when it is eventually made available, but you do get what you pay for. The Asus P5E3 Premium is an excellent motherboard and worthy of an Editor's Choice award.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

The ASUS P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n was one of the most impressive and expensive motherboards released last year featuring a number of new and innovative technologies (Note: the 'Deluxe' version is the current outgoing X38-based product, versus the 'Premium' version reviewed here which is a yet unreleased X48-based product). Although features such as Express Gate, BlackHawk audio, and Wireless 802.11n support might not be everyone's cup of tea, they are still very unique characteristics and should you require any or most of them, then it becomes quite handy to have under the same umbrella. All of these were also found on the ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFi-AP @n, so what else does this new motherboard have to offer?
