ASUS Maximus Extreme Pro Reviews

hardocp‘s review Edit

The ASUS Republic of Gamers Maximus Extreme is a very good motherboard that has some awesome water cooling abilities built into it. Although that cooling did not seem to net us any overclocking gains. DDR3 is still an overall drawback due to price and upgrade path hurdles. The CPU footprint is a bit cramped and will not allow you to use all coolers with the CPU, so we suggest you ask around in our forums first to find out [H]’ers experience with particular coolers. The overclocking is impressive, but nothing close to cutting edge. At $350 we would suggest you look to other options unless the Maximus Extreme just has the perfect feature set built just to your liking.

Extreme was going to be the board to fulfill the needs of today's extreme benchmarkers. It comes very close, but in our opinion it still needs another round of refinements in the BIOS and board components to capture this market.

ASUS Maximus Extreme doesn’t give you a single reason for disappointment. Right from the start when you open the box you get the feeling that the manufacturer did its real best to accommodate all your needs and wishes and make the work with this solution a pleasant and memorable experience.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

The Asus Maximus Extreme is sure to pique the interest of even the more discriminating PC enthusiast. Ask an enthusiast what he looks for in a motherboard and he's likely to say that it should have a high-performing cooling solution, it should be feature-rich, overclockable, highly tweakable, and performance should be second to none. In this regard, the Asus Maximus Extreme has all of those bases covered and then some. This motherboard has easily one of the most extensive set of BIOS options we have ever come across, it's cooling solution is powerful and flexible enough to work with water or air cooling systems, and performance and overclocking were both excellent.

All the bells and whistles a veteran system tweaker could ever want in a package that's priced almost reasonably. And it even includes a great game.
