GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD6 (rev. 1.0) Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

The Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 is without a doubt a winner when it comes to overclocking and features. Overclocking on the board was a dream, operation was stable and we didn't find much of anything on the board we didn't love. We can easily recommend the GA-P55-UD6 to beginners and seasoned overclockers alike which is unusual. Usually a board is for noobs, or veterans and there's little wiggle room. This board is great for both camps. Plug and play setup for the inexperienced and more than enough options for the veteran overclocker.

pcstats‘s review Edit

With extra DDR3 memory banks and PCI Express slots, the GA-P55-UD6 has a lot of room for future expansion. Things get even better when you take into account the 14 USB 2.0 ports (two of which are combo USB/eSATA ports) and 12 SATA 3Gb/s ports as well. The GA-P55-UD6 has a lot of room for expansion, you'll need a lot of hardware to fill up its many ports, slots and memory banks. Gigabyte hasn't inflated the price of the motherboard by throwing in useless gimmicks, so from a price-to-performance standpoint we here at PCSTATS think the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 motherboard is a pretty good buy. Recommended.

Gigabyte P55-UD6 is an excellent top shelf motherboard for the socket 1156 platform. Its strong points include the presence of twelve SATA-300 ports (with two eSATA ports), six memory sockets, support to SLI and CrossFireX modes, 24-phase voltage regulator circuit, heatpipe cooling for the regulator transistors and a high quality audio codec. And there is also the nice box, which surely will draw the attention on any shelf.

benchmarkreviews‘s review Edit

In summary, the overall performance is improved almost 10% on the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 with Core i7-860 when compared to the Core i7-920/GA-EX58-UD4P, but it is the energy efficient 24-phase power VRM feature that receives my highest recommendation for this P55 motherboard. The full depth of Gigabyte's proprietary product features is well worth the asking price, and the TPM encryption security is at the front of this list. Considering the improved real-world performance against X58-Express solutions, you can't possibly go wrong with the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 LGA1156 motherboard.

The Gigabyte P55-UD6 looks to be a true enthusiast motherboard giving us the highest BCLK rates we have seen yet on a P55 chipset motherboard using our Intel Core i5 processor. The UD6 is also extremely feature rich, but is absent the recent hardware "auto overclocking" tools seen on other P55 motherboards, which is likely AOK with most of our readers.

Gigabyte has put together a package that will work for both the Extreme overclocker as well as the person looking for a good solid board with a ton of features. The GA-P55-UD6 does everything well and comes in at a price point indicative of its capabilities and features that puts it at the upper end of the spectrum.

Whether you are looking to build out a pint-sized LAN box or a full-sized tower, Gigabyte has you covered with two great P55 options. With stellar performance already available at launch, these boards can only get better through future BIOS revisions.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

The GA-P55-UD6 from Gigabyte was on a level playing field with the ASUS ROG for the most part in general performance and extreme overclocking results. It did trail the other boards in the 8-thread CPU tests, but showed second place performance everywhere else. The UD6 handled cold temperatures as well as the E657, but required us to shut the PSU off periodically between reboots in order for the board to properly repost.

This motherboard gets our Dam Good award since it does everything well while being the most feature-rich P55 motherboard that we've come across and although it doesn't wear its overclocking capabilities on its sleeve, it absolutely exceled in the overclocking department. At this point in time the only serious knock against this model is the availability P55A-UD6, which is effectively the same motherboard, but with SATA 6Gb/s and USB 3.0 support. Having said that, you are looking at a roughly $40 price premium for the P55A model at most retailers, so it is up to you whether these forward-looking technologies are worth the extra money.

However, Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 has seriously improved our impression about it after a series of performance tests and overclocking experiments. We expected it to show really good overclocking results, and the board proved up to our expectations. We also assumed that it wiould work fast and again Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 confirmed our assumptions. And even the tested boards’ power consumption turned out very close in our testing conditions, which was a nice surprise. Of course, Asus board offers more flexibility in choosing the optimal operational mode.

motherboards‘s review Edit

GIGABYTE has given new meaning to features with their new board. Features like SMART 6, 24-Phase Power and much more bring this board to one of the most feature-rich P55 motherboards on the market today. The inclusion of a external SATA kit with all the wires and cables needed adds additional value to the board. GIGABYTE is serious about the enthusiast crowd with a fully featured BIOS and lots of overclocking options that some other manufacturers can’t match. They offer a 3-year Warranty on the P55-UD6 board, with excellent support and great performance rounding out the board, giving this board an Editors Choice award.

The Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 was a really close contender for winning this shootout, however a similarly high US$250 price point and some niggling layout issues gave us pause, though for Gigabyte, it does appear to be the more you pay, the more you'll get (not only features, but mass as well).

But, as those boards are released, hopefully Gigabyte will put these P55s into a better price point that will make it more of an economical decision for consumers instead of a feature-based one. If both boards are at the same price point, I'd be crazy not to recommend the P55A boards to put under someone's Christmas tree this holiday season.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

The most expensive and well equipped motherboard was the Gigabyte P55-UD6 at $250. There is no messing around with this one as you get a total of twelve SATA ports, six DIMM slots and a crazy 24 + 3 power phase design. Everything else remains much the same, so you have to decide if the extra SATA ports and DIMM slots serve you any purpose. The P55-UD6 was an excellent ambassador for the Gigabyte P55 series as it managed all tasks really well.
