ASUS Maximus III GENE Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

Through out testing we can see that most P55 motherboards will performa almost identical with one another. With a few exceptions, which we have to ask ourselves, what separates one motherboard from another? The answer is features and capabilities, and or layout. This is where the Maximus III GENE has loads of, features and capabilities (layout is a standard micro ATX). Being able to check voltages on major components on the motherboard, having one of the few P55 based motherboards that uses a rear ward clear CMOS button, being able to access to the on board power/reset buttons, including Creatives very own X-FI sound system, by moving the EPS CPU power button to a spot where accessibility is easier, to finally giving us users the ability to hook up a lap top (or another computer) to diagnose the Maximus III GENE motherboard.

Summing it all up proves very easy, as there is no question which board is both the better performer, as well as the better overclocker. I remain so impressed with the Maximus III Gene that it will become my main motherboard, without a doubt. All the included features packed into such a small package didn't detract from the board's ability, and it truly shocked me how everything worked so well together. Trying to come up with any shortcomings in the Gene proves really hard, so much so that I cannot really find anything wrong with it that might make me hesitate in buying yet another for a secondary system. I really believe it will meet anyone's needs, no matter how they plan to use it, whether as a daily driver, or the ultimate microATX extreme overclocking platform.

Maximus III Gene has an excellent cost/benefit ratio if you are looking for a socket 1156 micro-ATX motherboard with no on-board video, lots of overcloking options and supporting SLI and CrossFireX setups in order to build a powerful gaming computer inside a small case.

ASUS has built a very capable and feature rich motherboard in the Republic of Gamers' Maximus III Gene. Now, I know what you are thinking, this thing has the ROG brand on it, it is going to cost $5000! Actually this motherboard represents a good value if you are in the market for a micro-ATX motherboard with tons of computer hardware enthusiast features. You can currently pick up this board from Buy.com for $197.99 with Free Shipping.

An overclocking champion (despite ROG Connect's failure to impress) Asus' ROG Maximus III Gene is attractive, well laid out and packed with genuinely useful features – in fact it's only really let down by its lack of USB 3.0. If this isn't important to you it's definitely worth its £150 asking price, but otherwise you might be better off waiting or looking elsewhere.

We'd like to thank ASUS for providing the Maximus III Gene for our review today. There were a host of features and capabilities on the Maximus III Gene that we haven't seen in any micro ATX motherboards since the form factor was created. ASUS continues to push the envelope in terms of performance, overclocking, and the amount of hardware they can fit on this form factor too. The included SupremeFX X-Fi audio chip, dual PCI-E x16 slots, and unique innovations to the memory DIMMs are just a few features that will enhance any gamer or HTPC user's experience with this motherboard.
