ASUS Rampage III Gene Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

The ASUS Rampage III Gene lives up to its reputation and is a full featured board in a small size. With the inclusion of the newer versions of SATA6 and USB3.0, it takes the Gene platform and makes it one better.

The R3G is a great board though: it's compact, looks great, performs well and it offers the chance of building a very powerful micro-ATX system. At £199, it's decent value for money too, even if the P6X58D-E is an even better proposition for getting an LGA1366 system on the cheap (or relatively cheap, at least). If you're looking for an LGA1366 board, then the cheaper P6X58D-E is the better option; if you're looking for a fast, high-quality micro-ATX board, then look no further.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Other than multiple GPUs, there's little you sacrifice for the cut-down size of the microATX Rampage III Gene, and it's as feature packed as its RoG brethren. There's attention to detail with power buttons and reset switches, and it's stable under overclock. The only question about the Rampage III Gene is whether or not you can find a small form factor case with suitable cooling, so you can actually play around with its incredible overclocking abilities. Or even get to grips with them in the first place, given the lack of documentation. The biggest problem, though, is the price – it's a niche product with a very well-defined audience.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

The ASUS Rampage III GENE is a compelling solution if you need substantial performance from a small-form-factor motherboard. Able to run an Intel Core 980X chip, 24GB of RAM and two high-end GPUs, the board's intelligent layout and rich feature-set belies its diminutive size.

We told you at the outset that the Rampage III Gene would have some big shoes to fill. After all, we think that its big brother is one of the best boards out right now. Unfortunately it did not deliver as well as we would have liked. There were some HDD performance issues that we ran into that hurt many of our less gaming oriented tests.
