ASUS P6X58D Premium Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

The Asus P6X58D is an exceptional board that not only overclocks well, but has the latest features. These features include the brand new USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s. Asus proudly makes the claim to be the first motherboard manufacturer to put both on a X58 based board. Asus also has added support for the future 32nm chips from Intel. For many users this helps future proof the machine a bit, which is something that is hard to come by these days. Other motherboard manufactures should take note. The fact that USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s are available on P55 boards, but not on Intel's so called enthusiast system is pretty sad.

The full depth of ASUS's proprietary product features is well worth the asking price, although TPM encryption security would have been a nice touch. Considering the improved real-world performance against existing USB-2.0/SATA-3G X58-Express solutions, enthusiasts can count on improving system performance with the ASUS P6X58D-Premium.

All of which is to say, this board isn't a bad buy. It's not, however, the best buy around. The P6X58D Premium’s biggest competitor is the SATA 6Gbps and USB 3-equipped Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (review coming soon). This is because the Gigabyte board is a slightly better overclocker and £83 cheaper, two issues the Asus board doesn't have a reply for.

The ASUS P6X58D Premium leaves us with a middle-of-the-road feeling. It is surely a GOOD motherboard that does carry some value with it, and would likely make many users very happy, but it is going to get lost in a sea of other boards that all look about the same. One that that ASUS has done for the market over the last decade is to make motherboards so solid, that the bar is now so high it is hard to build a standout.

The board includes a nice accessory bundle and looks very good in its blue paint job. With Tri-SLI capabilities, this board would be an excellent choice of gamers. The value of this board is evident while using it and the Express Gate features just top the cake. However, I would like to see a much larger realization of potential happen on that topic. I am very pleased with the P6X58D Premium because it combines high quality components with high quality engineering and future proofing. As such, I have no hesitation recommending this board to every power user looking to upgrade. The P6X58D is here in all its Xtreme goodness.

motherboards‘s review Edit

ASUS has taken the successful X58 chipset and added features like support for the next generation Intel 6-core CPUs, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0 and more to their X58 lineup. These results in the most feature-rich motherboard on the X58 platform I have ever seen. Performance is as to be expected from a high-end board like this one and the layout of the motherboard is excellent. ASUS offers excellent support through their website and has a Support telephone system as well. This board earns a solid Editor’s Choice due to all of the features this board supports and the overclocking capability of the board is excellent as well.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

The ASUS P6X58D Premium and the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 emerged mostly equal in our performance tests. For the most part, our reference, non-SATA 6Gbit/s motherboard could keep up with these upgraded X58 boards. Only in certain benchmark segments do we find a slight difference, which meant that if you already have a competent X58 board, there are no pressing reasons to upgrade. SATA 6Gbit/s by itself unfortunately will not make an impact, at least not without a SSD that can take advantage of it.
