The DG45FC is pretty nifty and pulls some good hardware together, but given a choice we'd buy the Zotac GeForce 9300-ITX, J&W Minix 780G or opt for a micro-ATX G45 motherboard from a popular Taiwanese manufacturer because it'll be more fulfilling for your money. £100 isn't a bad price to pay for a mini-ITX board, but we think the £20 extra for the Zotac or going the AMD route is still a better overall base for a tiny HTPC.

The DG45FC excites us as we finally have a top line chipset available in a mini-TX form factor at a terrific price. We will take an in-depth look at it in the near future, but for now, it is a product with great promise. And one that we really want to see in our HTPC setup at some point.

Both mainboards tested within our today’s review performed very well: Intel DG45FC and Zotac GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi easily cope with all sorts of workload including HD video playback. Intel G45 Express and Nvidia GeForce 9300 chipsets they are based on have integrated hardware tools for video decoding that guarantee flawless playback with minimal CPU utilization. This is why these mainboards may be used for HTPC systems that can do much more than just playback movies.

Intel has condensed a G45 motherboard into the tiny Mini-ITX form factor. The result is a board that looks really cute but still manages to deliver desktop performance. We're not sure it offers much to the average consumer that a more traditional MODT mini-itx platform couldn't deliver but the price is good and so is the feature list.
