Intel DP55KG Pro Reviews

hardwaresecrets‘s review Edit

Intel DP55KG has lot of extra features compared to mainstream P55-based motherboards, especially the support for SLI configuration, support for three video cards, on-board Bluetooth controller, two additional SATA-300 ports, two eSATA-300 ports, on-board optical SPDIF input and output, FireWire ports and professional-grade on-board audio. Although it is more expensive than mainstream products, it is not badly priced if you really need the extra features it brings. Of course if the extras won’t make any difference for you, you should stick with a mainstream model and save some money.

benchmarkreviews‘s review Edit

NewEgg currently sells the Intel DP55KG Extreme Series motherboard for $209.99. At that price, I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed. Intel has been touting the cost-optimized design of their P55 Express chipset since launch, and yet this is nowhere near the "mainstream" price point that Intel claimed. Granted, it performs well and has a good feature set, but this price puts it in direct competition with X58 motherboards and negates most of the cost savings associated with the Lynnfield platform.

Intel has once again created a couple of boards that will keep the Intel loyalists happy. Both the Intel DP55Wg and DP55KG motherboards are solid, great performers and make for a great computing experience!

AnandTech‘s review Edit

In the DP55KG and the DP55SB we have two almost identical boards, separated only by the visual and physical difference of their form factors. The extra expansion slots and SATA/E-SATA ports of the DP55KG are very much tacked onto the same foundation of the DP55SB board and unsurprisingly, there is little to separate the two in terms of performance, power consumption or price.

Individual benefits that Intel DP55KG mainboard offered us during our test session got totally overshadowed by numerous small inconveniences and drawbacks. The most positive impression was definitely left by the fun skull that blinks eyes in accordance with the HDD activity. We could also give Intel DP55KG due credit for adequate cooling system without any extra heatsinks and heatpipes.

As far as the DP55KG goes, we were equally impressed. This board offers up a solid array of features, integrated Bluetooth being one of the more novel features. The DP55KG boasts solid performance, rock solid stability, and Intel has even published their own BIOS performance tuning guide for the board.

motherboards‘s review Edit

Intel has done a great job with the DP55KG Extreme motherboard. The board overclocks decently, but the real treat for this board is on the automatic overclocking that Turbo Boost provides. The board automatically changes the multiplier for the Core i7 or i5 CPU higher so it operates at 3.2GHz for the Core i5 750 CPU or 3.6GHz for the Core i7 870 CPU. These were completely stable in operation. Intel has done their homework with the overclocking and it shows. The board features a full suite of software from Intel including their new Desktop Control Center and a trial version of Norton’s Internet Security. It is for these reasons that I give this board an Editor’s Choice; it’s been a long time coming for an Intel retail board.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Frankly, we were quite surprised to find out the price of the Intel DP55KG. Although the company has made an obvious effort to spice up its motherboards to appeal to enthusiasts, it is still some way behind the competition. This is why the US$210 price tag does not suit it in our opinion. This is a board that aspires to be a premium board, but lacks some of the features on the others. The performance was also average, with no outstanding power efficiency to convince us of its value.

We'd like to thank our friends at Intel for providing the DP55KG for our review today. This is one of the first available boards that utilize the P55 chipset and support the LGA 1156 socket and we couldn't have been more impressed with the overall performance results we experienced using this board. It didn't matter if we were running gaming benchmarks, multimedia tests, or overclocking, the DP55KG seemed to have a balanced approach to providing the user more than enough power and performance when doing any of these operations using this motherboard.
