Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The LX3 isn't perfect. It has no viewfinder, a small zoom range and lacks a dial for quickly adjusting settings. However, it's only the latter that we feel is a serious criticism. We're happy to have a small zoom, as it seems a necessary sacrifice for what is otherwise the best lens we have ever seen on a compact camera. Similarly, we can live without a viewfinder given it allows for a 3in screen on such a compact camera.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

As we've seen across the entire range of Panasonic cameras, each generation of cameras in the Lumix lineup seems to provide clear improvements in resolution, screen quality, lens performance, and image processing, all while keeping these upgrades within the same MSRP as the previous generation. At a street price of $500 or less, the LX3 provides solid performance and capability, but comes dangerously close to the price of entry level DSLRs.

reghardware‘s review Edit

Over a short distance the LX3 offers great performance. It shot four full-size JPEGs in under a second and a half in the tests, and took three RAW shots in slightly less time. It provided the second-best quality at low ISOs after the Canon G11, producing shots with superb colours and sharpness.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Part way through, I was leaning towards the Panasonic with its many features and solid build quality. One area that annoys me about the LX3 is the Intelligent Auto (iA) mode. I know Panasonic are proud of the feature but this is a camera that's aimed more at users who know how to expose an image and enjoy striving to get it. iA takes that fun away from picture taking and is all very well for point and shoot types.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Although the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 has its share of passionate fans, we think the JPEG quality should be more consistent for the price.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

Panasonic got the dimensions right from the start with the LX1 and they've had the sense not to mess with a classic. The Panasonic LX3 enhances the basic design with a very nicely integrated grip, a new record/playback mode switch (no need to reselect the exposure mode), while swapping out the IS button on the LX2 for a Focus button that is much more useful (who turns IS off?).

Despite an underwhelming zoom, the LX3 takes some smart shots.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

The Lumix LX3 fulfils its brief as a high-end enthusiasts compact. It ticks all the required feature boxes including full manual control, RAW recording, a flash hotshoe and wide angle lens with the bonus of a bright focal ratio. On top of this you also get a decent 3in screen with 460k pixels, HD movie recording and a raft of easy modes including Panasonic’s excellent Intelligent Auto. All this packed into a small and light body which actually comes in slightly cheaper than its closest rival from Canon.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

Panasonic has dealt with criticism of Megapixel race opponents in a serious way, and leaves a positive impression with the LX3. This is an impression with which Panasonic once again distinguish themselves from the crowd. The improvements are visible or at least measurable, and do not lead to the absolute top compact camera, but Panasonic clearly started something that should be continued as far as we are concerned.
