Palit GeForce GTS 450 Sonic (1024MB GDDR5) Pro Reviews

overclockersclub‘s review Edit

The Palit GTS 450 Sonic Platinum Edition is the top dog in the Palit GTS 450 line up and comes with a price that reflects this. At $159 this card is a few bucks...Ok, 30 bucks more than the reference cards but it does come set up to run the highest clock speeds of any GTS 450 that I have seen...at default voltages mind you. It offers a step forward to give you access to the latest display technologies, is cool running and offers excellent performance at this price point.

Like the other Palit cards with the “Sonic Platinum” moniker bestowed on them, the Palit GeForce GTS 450 Sonic Platinum is super fast. Running at a stunning 930MHz at the core, the card is capable of going head to head with the Radeon HD 5770 and is over 10% faster than a reference GeForce GTS 250. We also liked its selection of video output ports as it’s definitely more user-friendly than NVIDIA’s reference twin DVI and single mini-HDMI offerings.

If you want to save some money and prefer to really do overclocking yourself, the Sonic Platinum version is probably a little bit of a waste. The Sonic version would be a more attractive option. The bottom line, though, is that there's still a lot of people out there who don't like to overclock, don't feel comfortable or just can't be bothered, and that's quite common at this price point. For those people the Sonic Platinum from Palit is a stand out model due to its massive out of the box clocks.

techPowerUp!‘s review Edit

The final verdict on the GTS 450 itself is not definitive. The GPU does not stay ahead far enough of the Radeon HD 5700 series to create the kind of dilemma buyers faced that made them choose the GeForce GTX 460 768 MB over the Radeon HD 5770 when the former first came out. Instead, it's stuck in between the HD 5750 and HD 5770, and leans very close to the HD 5750 in terms of performance. Choosing a card in this segment has been a tough decision, and will now be even harder. Bring in the dice.
