As we showed all along in our tests, once overclocked the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 was able to outperform the 8800 GTX in a number of games, albeit by a small margin. Therefore investing in a GeForce 8800 GTS 512 today is probably not a bad move, particularly for those that want to engage in some serious gaming action over the Christmas holidays!

With all due respect, the new GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB graphics card performed quite reasonably in many tests, but not all of them though. It can easily tackle games of the early 2006 era and prior at a very high resolutions and image quality settings, but we can't say for certain how it would fare in this year's upcoming games. In fact the GeForce 8800 GTX would prove a better proposition for the ultra large panel owners than even the original GeForce 8800 GTS.

Given its £150-170 price tag, the choice between a GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB and the 8800 GTX is clear despite the fact that the latter is the only one to maintain the triple SLI support. Let's note that the GeForce 8800 GTX is at the end of its lifespan and should quickly disappear. On the other hand, the unbalanced character of this new 8800 GTS which almost only counts on its raw throughput to outgrow the 8800 GT 512 MB shows its limitations. The performance-price ratio remains in favour of the 8800 GT and the gap between the two is too small to really be significant.

Suffice to say, we are pleased with the GeForce 8800GTS 320MB. It manages to reduce the price by almost 20% over the 640MB version and in just about all of our gaming tests, performance is the same or only a little slower.
