Samsung WB500 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

At £200, the Samsung WB500 is reasonably priced. We're not over the moon about its image quality, but it will suffice for most purposes. And let's not forget that its huge number of features represent a virtual wish list of everything an enthusiastic snapper could want, as is the powerful lens. If it took better pictures, we'd find it rather easier to recommend.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The Samsung WB500 is a good, rugged camera with impressive zoom range for a compact. It offers some original auto features, but at the same time gives the photographer room to experiment with manual settings if they so desire. Image quality is OK, although shots lack some detail. However, we were impressed with the HD video capture feature. The menu navigation on this camera isn't the most intuitive to follow, but the operation is responsive enough. The design of the lens cover is the real drawback. Be prepared for your lens to get dirty or scratched as it's often left exposed and no camera case is supplied.

You get plenty of features although quite how many of them users will get around to trying is debatable. But at least they’re there if you need them. Performance is good if not outstanding and the inclusion of HD video is a bonus, although it’s a shame Samsung makes it hard to view on a HD Ready set. If you you’re looking for a budget compact that will deliver decent results and aren’t too bothered about size, then the WB500 is certainly worth taking a look at.

Some will find the sheer bulk of the Samsung WB500 reassuring; we found it burdensome. Although the 10.3Mp sensor and 10x zoom were welcome, this was far from our favourite compact.

If you're in the market for a compact that has a decent resolution, good zoom and above all gives excellent image quality, then get this camera. Just don't go to a night time rally.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

The Samsung WB500 is an interesting camera, and if you settle for an average image quality, excellent operation, fine color reproduction and a large optical zoom range, you will certainly have fun with this mega zoom camera. Yet, we simply expected more from Samsung, certainly because over the last few years, Samsung has been telling us how serious the company is, and that they are on an unscrupulous mission to conquer market shares.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The new Samsung WB500 is an extremely impressive camera for the price. It looks good, has superb build quality, a huge list of features, and its performance measures up to cameras costing £100 more. It does have one or two foibles, but when it comes down to value for money it's hard to beat.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The Samsung WB500 / HZ10W is somewhat confusingly very similar to the WB550 / HZ15W, which was released just a couple of months later with a number of additional features intended to make it more competitive with Panasonic's TZ7 model. Therefore deciding between the two Samsung cameras will depend entirely on whether you require the larger screen, greater megapixel count, Smart Auto mode, HDMI port and better low-light image quality of the WB550.
