Philips 46PFL9705H Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

In short, then, the Philips 46PFL9705 isn’t much of a television – but it is a really fine display for your HD and 3D sources. It’s also quite nicely balanced and unexpectedly weighty where sound is concerned. But it’s not perfect.

So what do you want from a TV? Great image quality? Check. Decent sound? Check. Effective 3D, even if you do have to wear those pesky glasses? Check. Philips has managed to deliver on all counts, and that’s before you get to the additional features like online connectivity and Ambilight. What’s more, this TV, though not exactly a bargain, is competitively priced. But if only Philips had included a Freeview HD tuner.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The 46PFL9705H isn't perfect. It lacks a Freeview HD tuner, its picture processing needs to be used with care to get the best out of it, and there's evidence of crosstalk noise with 3D pictures. However, the latter are also spectacularly vivid and bright by alternate-frame standards. It's also an object of beauty, boasts unprecedented multimedia capability (including open internet access), delivers superb sound, and (provided you handle it with care) its 2D pictures are unrivalled. If you're up to the challenge of exploiting all its potential to the full, it is a sensational bit of kit.

The addition of 3D to the 46PFL9705H ran the danger of undermining what was very likely to be a spectacularly good 2D TV. But while the set doesn’t remove quite enough crosstalk to totally steal plasma’s current 3D thunder, it certainly sets new 3D standards for the LCD market. And in doing so, it makes the 3D choice between no crosstalk but less brightness and detail with plasma, and some crosstalk but more brightness and sharpness with LCD considerably tougher than it was before. Especially given that the 46PFL9705H also enjoys a huge feature count, excellent audio and sensational 2D performance.
