Archos 101 Pro Reviews

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

This is far from an impressive tablet and came as something of a disappointment given Archos' strong legacy in portable entertainment products. The price is a palatable £229, but we think most people will find the BeBook or Creative Ziio better options, while 3G and the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the Linx N700 are not far away, price-wise.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Archos 101 is a huge improvement over the Archos 9, with a responsive and beautiful touchscreen, excellent features and fast networking. It's a shame there's no Android Market, but the Archos alternative is commendable.

A poor screen, missing applications and frequent crashes make this tablet hard to recommend

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The Archos 101 is a little unwieldy for one-handed use, has an average screen and slightly unresponsive touchscreen, for a capacitive model, but with a tweak or two it's a very versatile and useful entertainment device. We'd recommend waiting for the next generation of tablets to arrive before making a buying decision though, especially when the first-gen iPad's price drop shows that prices could tumble significantly.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The Archos 101 is slim, light, offers an excellent range of support and connectivity and comes at a very reasonable price. Though it drops points to some rivals when it comes to display response and clarity, this isn't serious enough to undermine it and if you can live with these drawbacks this is an excellent entry point into a market that will undoubtedly see major development this year.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Archos 101 tablet's price is right and the screen is ample, but the experience is outdated and performance is sluggish.

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The Archos 101 has impressive battery life and supports external storage, but it doesn’t feel as tough as its rivals and doesn't come with the standard Google apps and account support.

Charging requires wall adapter, screen quality and responsiveness are mediocre; onscreen keyboard is awkward; Adobe Flash not fully compatible; lacks support for Android Market and Google Mobile apps, such as Maps, Navigation, Contacts, Calendar, and others.

reghardware‘s review Edit

For 270 quid, the 101 is a lot of tablet for the money, and for many people it will be a better investment than a similarly priced netbook, especially if watching video on the hoof is likely to be its main purpose. The full-size USB port is a very welcome feature and the lack of weight and girth make it a convenient, if potentially fragile, travelling companion. After living with the 101 for a while, I would quite happily trade in my Ubuntu-running Samsung N140 for it, which makes it the only tablet now on sale that I would actually spend my own hard-earned on.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

Overall, the Archos 101 is exactly what one would currently expect at this price. Those who can deal with the disadvantages and want to use the Archos primarily as a multimedia surf-station at home have themselves here a reasonably-priced alternative to some competitor products.

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

Among 10-inch Android tablets, the Archos 101 is the slimmest, most solid, and, at $299 ($349 for the 16GB version), the best value thus far. However, that doesn't mean we don't have reservations. For such a large screen, the viewing angles are too narrow. Also, you don't get access to all of Google's apps or the Android market, and the pricier Galaxy Tab offers faster performance. Still, with 8GB of storage, two USB ports, HDMI, and long battery life, Archos delivers good bang for your buck.

Promising hardware, but Archos' approach to apps is restrictive and the software isn't quite ready yet.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

As we've seen in the past from Archos tablets, they often lack the premium build quality (which we can live with from a price point of view), but the slightly hampered user experience might mean it doesn't have the same wow factor from the get go. Certainly one of the most affordable tablets around, we look forward to getting the Archos 101 in for review and giving it a run for its money and seeing exactly what you get for not a lot of your bucks.
