What you get if you choose the Canon PIXMA MP640 is a versatile, well-designed, easy-to-use all-in-one. It may not be the cheapest to run, but you do get high quality photo prints, better than average plain paper prints and the facility to set up plain and photo paper simultaneously. You also get the facilities to print on CDs and DVDs and to duplex pages with less speed overhead than from most of its rivals. It doesn't quite do enough to secure an award, but it won't disappoint if you do pick one up.

expertreviews‘s review Edit

With reasonable print costs and outstanding quality on everything from photos to business documents, this reliable all-rounder is up to almost any task. It's neither the fastest nor the cheapest MFP, but it provides a great balance between quality, speed and price.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

Our review of the MP620 complained that it lacked film scanning, high fidelity printing and duplex printing. The MP640 brings duplex printing to the entry-level multifunction PIXMA printer but there's still no film scanning. We're less concerned than we had been about high fidelity printing because Canon does a great job with four colors and there are less ink cartridges to buy.

However, if you are looking for an all-in-one printer for your student or home, you may have found a keeper. With the MP640’s excellent photo quality, good draft mode, useful software and devices, ease of use, built-in memory card read with USB compatibility, and several connection options, I would say the only potential problem is the $220 price tag.
