Canon PIXMA MP495 Pro Reviews

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Pixma MP495 is a capable printer with a nice range of key features at a low price. Its photo capabilities do let it down somewhat, but at this price it’s hard to be too critical over an entry-level model that still represents good value for money. As a casual option to improve productivity in the home it would suit if professional-quality image output isn’t a priority.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Although this is one of the cheapest multifunction printers on the market, offering good print speeds, satisfactory print quality and the bonus of Wi-Fi connectivity, the absence of a decent LCD screen, PictBridge port or memory card slots makes it hard for us to wholeheartedly recommend it.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Considering that the street price of the MP495 is only £15 less than the MG5150, it's a far inferior printer, even if the latter does lack Wi-Fi connectivity. Most of the refinements that make Canon's models so popular, such as the five-ink print system, dual input trays and excellent photo quality output, are all lacking.

For small or home offices that require quality over speed, this low-cost all-in-one can do the job. Note, though: Its ink costs are high, and it lacks an LCD screen.

PC World‘s review Edit

Priced at $80 (as of September 3, 2010), the Canon Pixma MP495 color inkjet multifunction printer handles printing, copying, and scanning, and currently it costs just $10 more than its cousin, the Canon Pixma MP280. The Pixma MP495 adds wireless connectivity for easier sharing, and ditches the matte-black scanner lid for a shiny one. Otherwise, it has the same strengths and weaknesses as the MP280: extremely nice text and photos, but pricey black ink and minimal paper-handling options. For these reasons, it's best suited for light home or dorm use.

printercomparison‘s review Edit

For $79.99, the Canon Pixma MP495 offers three functional devices, decent print speeds (for its class), a sleek design, wireless connectivity and a good selection of software. The MP495 could be a great fit for a family on a budget (aren't we all?) or for a student who needs to copy and scan but has limited space. The big issues I had with the MP495 were expected; I've seen the color document pause on almost every new Pixma I've reviewed and I've yet to come across a photo printer that uses the tri-color cartridge that can match the color vibrancy of a photo printer that offers four or more individual color cartridges.

Print quality was also good, with crisp black text and strong colours on plain paper. Photo prints came through a little dark, however. The two cartridges are readily available from online discounters, giving costs of around 3.6p for black text and 8.2p for colour pages. These are competitive – it’s good that Canon is not trying to recoup the low price of the printer with sky-high cartridge prices. The MP495 is a good printer and scanner given the price, but it lacks a few touches of more expensive models, such as the ability to print directly from memory cards or cameras.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

If you're shopping for a sub-$100 multifunction printer for intermittent use in your home, the Canon Pixma MP495 will meet your needs. It prints, scans, and copies documents, and the integrated wireless print server means you won't have a bundle of cables tangling up the office. We only have a few flaws to nitpick, but otherwise Canon scores with the Pixma MP495.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

What it really comes down to is whether you value wireless connection more than memory card slots and PictBridge connection for your camera. If you rarely print photos then the Canon PIXMA MP495 still offers good value as a low-cost printer, copier and scanner. If you need to print images, though, it's more awkward than its immediate predecessor.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Although its high black-ink costs will eventually negate your initial savings, that's only with heavy use — something the Canon Pixma MP495 isn't designed for. What it does deliver is outstanding output quality for the price.
