Pentax X70 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The first dip into the ‘bridge' camera water for Pentax has produced a surprisingly lightweight and feature-heavy DSLR-styled camera with high quality stills and an efficiently anti-blur 24x optical zoom, but disappointing HD movie results.

Macworld‘s review Edit

What makes the Pentax X70 stand out? Its compact size, light weight, 11 fps rapid-fire mode, and terrific usability. The X70 is smaller and lighter than nearly every other camera in its class.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

For the first camera in the superzoom range, Pentax have done quite well. I think they've started as they mean to go on by putting one of the largest zooms available in the camera. A lot of the other features are found on basic compacts and I think are simply there to bulk the camera out and keep it uniform with the rest of the range.

PC World‘s review Edit

The 24X-optical-zoom Pentax X70 is one of the lightest, smallest megazoom cameras on the market, but it maintains "bigness" where it should: in the lens.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Offering itself up as a jack-of-all-trades tool, the X70 can either be used like a point and shoot on steroids, or a more creative device according to user experience or desire. It will seem immediately intuitive to use for anyone who has handled an entry-level digital SLR.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

Pentax has done a fine job with their first ever mega-zoom model. The Option X70 has a lot to offer with superb image quality, great optics, decent performance, and loads of user-friendly options. This is not only a easy to use digicam, but also a very capable photographic tool. The only issues I had with this model were the 'wobbly' lens unit, uncomfortable EVF eye piece and the poor battery life. Those issues, aside, I feel the Pentax Optio X70 is a worthy competitor in the mega-zoom category, offering a good balance of features and performance in the sub US$400 price range.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The Pentax X70 is a good quality camera from one of the big names in the business, and is capable of producing good pictures over a huge zoom range thanks to an excellent image stabilisation system. It handles well, and is smaller and lighter than most of its competitors, however it has a serious problem with noise even at moderate ISO settings, and the limited battery duration is also a negative point.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

OK, on one level the unassuming looking Pentax X70 feels free of frills; there's no tilting rear screen, option to add external flash via a hotshoe, nor the ability to shoot in Raw as an alternative to JPEG, as offered on rival models towards the higher end of the pricing scale, but that said, if you can find an Internet pricing around the £300 mark, the X70 offers fair value. At full asking price £369 it feels a tad too dear to truly have the 'X' factor.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

The X70 offers a lot in the way of control and focal length, but is it worth the $400 price tag? Most ultrazooms are running at this same price point, and most have fared considerably well on this site, but the X70 is a great camera that offers a lot of control similar to a DSLR. Not only can the X70 take you from extreme wide-angle to super telephoto with one lens, it does so with the ability to take control of nearly every aspect of shooting.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Slow performance and photo quality concerns stop the otherwise very good Pentax X70 from being a winning megazoom.
