The new ATI X1950 XTX is an evolutionary step in GPU technology, not a revolutionary one. As a single card, looking at just the X1950 XTX, ATI has a fantastic product on their hands. While not the hands down winner in all of our benchmarks at resolutions of 1600x1200 or 2048x1536, the X1950 XTX gets ATI much closer than it was before to the NVIDIA 7950 GX2 multi-GPU board.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

With a quiet cooler, GDDR4 memory and reduced power consumption, the X1950 XTX makes a very appealing card. If you're already running high-end GeForce 7 or Radeon X1000 series hardware, then you're best staying put, but if you're in the market for a new high-end solution, the Radeon X1950 XTX is a clear winner on multiple fronts.

Like we predicted, a mere increase in memory clock speeds, DDR4 or not, doesn't really help the Radeon X1950 XTX too much in performance. As the overclocked HIS Radeon X1900 XTX showed, the best Radeon X1900 XTX could still pose a threat to this new product. At the moment, it seems like present owners of a Radeon X1900 XTX or the XT version can forget about making a minor upgrade to the X1950 XTX, as there is no significant performance advantage from doing so.

It's almost silent, the drivers are better, has a better feature set, better price, better image quality and it's ready to be paired with a CrossFire edition card. The 7950 GX2 may be slightly faster and doesn't need a specific card to run in SLI, but if it was my choice, I know what I'd be taking home to meet the parents.
