ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 Pro Reviews

computershopper‘s review Edit

In most tests, the dual-GPU ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card blows away all competition. And even in the tests where it drops to single-card speeds, it still offers very good performance.

Very quiet for a high-end card, good performance-to-dollar ratio.Where the 3870 X2 gets interesting is if ATI really gets its driver act in gear, improving performance in key games and dramatically improving multi-GPU scaling over a single 3870 X2 card. In a couple of months, this could be a really killer product. Or, if the driver improvements don't happen, it might only solidify Nvidia's position as the best multi-GPU providers.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

The ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 is, on balance, the fastest graphics-card in our line-up. Given just how it achieves its lofty performance - literally adding two Radeon HD 3870 GPUs on to one PCB - the result isn't surprising, so if you can't win the straight-line speed battle with a single GPU, just add another.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

AMD has reached its goal, taking back the crown for the most powerful graphics card. After all, it had been more than a year (since the launch of the 8800 GTX) since it was lost. The fastest card today, once again, carries the AMD signature, after a long domination by NVIDIA. Based on two RV670, the HD 3870 X2 suffers, however, in part from its conception and isn't as thrilling as a new chip, like a real R680, would have been.

Well, you've seen the results, and you've heard my thoughts about the perils of multi-GPU performance scaling, driver updates, and the like. You can probably draw your own conclusions at this point, so I'll keep it brief. Obviously, AMD has captured the title of "fastest single graphics card" with the Radeon HD 3870 X2. There is much to like here. The X2 is generally faster than the GeForce 8800 Ultra, and it has HD video decode acceleration that Nvidia's older G80 GPU lacks.

AMD made a promise that we would have Crossfire X by the end of the first quarter, and good on them for sticking to that promise, but clearly some tweaking needs to be done!

Without a doubt, the ATI HD3870 X2 is a good card but at the same time, it lives and dies by driver and in-game Crossfire support.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The ATI HD3870 X2 is probably the most convincing example of multi-GPU on a single card we've ever seen with it often beating the long standing performance champion, the nVidia 8800 Ultra. However the heavy reliance on after market support and co-operation from games and driver developers means there's always going to be the risk the latest games won't play nice with this card. So, for that reason we can't unreservedly recommend it.
