ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Pro Reviews

ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

So ATI's new high end card based on the RV770 GPU—indeed, two of them—is finally here. True to the company's promise, it is clearly the performance leader of this generation. If you want the fastest graphics card money can buy, the Radeon HD 4870 X2 is it.

Our initial outlook for it is very, very good. If those idle power numbers can be improved upon with the updated PowerPlay BIOS as AMD claims, it will be very difficult to find weaknesses in AMD's new flagship product. The only exception might be the scalability concerns we mentioned above - that's up to AMD's software team to keep up with the PC titles as they arrive.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

The Radeon HD 4870 X2 is the newest and fastest 3D card of the moment - 25% better on average than the GeForce GTX 280 and up to 51% at the highest resolutions. And if you’re hoping for something in the near future with lower energy consumption, less noise, or a lower price, we’d recommend you not hold your breath.

techreport.com‘s review Edit

If you've been reading TR for any time at all, you know all of the caveats that go along with a multi-GPU graphics card like the Radeon HD 4870 X2. Without proper support in the game or a profile in the video driver, you may only see about half of the performance potential of your video card. There's no getting around that. But in the case of this particular card, even if the worst happens, you're falling back on the performance of one of the fastest GPUs around in the Radeon HD 4870.
