ATI Radeon HD 4770 Pro Reviews

Fudzilla‘s review Edit

We really can't think of any major drawbacks. ATI did a fine job, by the book, and ended up with a cheap, yet very fast card. At $99 or €89 it truly offers great value, especially considering it has the technological edge, and we're guessing it will make a lot of AMD accountants smile. Without a doubt, ATI's firstborn 40nm card deserves our Recommended award, and it offers a glimpse into a brighter, 40nm future even for gamers on a budget.

computershopper‘s review Edit

Thanks to its GDDR5 memory and a new 40nm manufacturing process, the ATI Radeon HD 4770 sets a new bar for graphics-card performance at around $100, while using less power than beefier boards like the Radeon 4850.

The Radeon HD 4770 presents a very strong real-world value. At $99-$109 it provides a great gameplay experience compared to the competition. The potential is there at least.

ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

If you're in the market for a low-cost card, especially if it has to go into a PC with a limited power supply, we highly recommend the Radeon HD 4770. Certainly, the performance-per-watt and thermal performance make us anxious to see laptops using the mobile version of the RV740 GPU (going by the Radeon HD 4830 and 4860 brands in that market).

www.pcper.com‘s review Edit

The beauty of the Radeon HD 4770 512MB graphics card is that it brings another low price, high performance part to the market that will also potentially make AMD more money as the ramp up to 40nm technology at TSMC increases. If you are on a tight budget, you can't go wrong with this offering and users that are comfortable in the 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 resolution with no plans to upgrade in the near future will find the HD 4770 more than capable of keeping up with their systems.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

The fan speed issue aside, the Radeon HD 4770 is an impressive mainstream graphics card that delivers an excellent value to become the best buy in its price segment. The compact design, excellent performance, low power consumption and affordable price tag of the Radeon HD 4770 makes it an ideal solution not only for gamers on a budget but also those looking to build a compact mobile gaming computer.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Still, this is a very decent offering from ATI for the mid-range market. It has a recommend retail price of US$109, which puts it at a very good position given its performance. It's not quite as ground-breaking or awesome as the Radeon HD 4850, but all things considered, if you are on an extremely tight budget and can only afford a single graphics card, the Radeon HD 4770 could be the pick of the season.

techreport.com‘s review Edit

The Radeon HD 4770 looks pretty darned good to me. The performance contest between the 4770 and the GeForce 9800 GT isn't a clean sweep for either card, likely for the reasons we saw illustrated in our look at the cards' specifications and synthetic performance results. The 4770's peak shader arithmetic power is unmatched by the 9800 GT, but the GeForce has notably more memory bandwidth. Which card is faster will depend largely on the requirements of the game in question.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

Of course, the good news is far more meaningful to game enthusiasts here. Two Radeon HD 4770s are unbeatable at $220. Almost across the board, in every single benchmark, a pair of 4770s is able to oust the Radeon HD 4890. Moreover, the 4770s use less power under load, run cooler, and, if our samples were any indication, overclock like mad. Need I even mention the two cards keeping pace with the GTX 280 - a $305+ board?

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

At $99, the Radeon HD 4770 was an award winner. At $109, it remains a good demonstration of 40 nm manufacturing at work and, as mentioned, a recommended alternative to the Radeon HD 4850/GeForce GTS 250 for budget-crunched gamers. Well-played ATI, well played.

hardwarecanucks‘s review Edit

ATI has sure hit the nail on the head with the HD 4770 by delivering exactly what the current market needs: a high performance card that costs less than a hundred bucks. However, what they now need to do is follow up on the rave reviews with actual stock in the channel and a massive marketing push. Without those two things the HD 4770 may only be remembered as a footnote in the history of discreet graphics cards.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The switch to a 40nm manufacturing process hasn't exactly blown us away but nevertheless, in the HD 4770, ATI has produced a card that comfortably bests all others at its price point. So, if you've got about £80 to spend on a graphics card, the choice is clear.
