HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

This compact mono laser is aimed at small businesses, but home users will also find it has a reasonable set of features for the money. There's an automatic duplexer for two-sided printing, and an Ethernet port. It's compatible with HP's Jetdirect ew2500 wireless print server, but this costs more than the printer itself – we'd recommend buying a wireless printer in the first place if this is a priority.

So, how does the £185 HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn look against these rivals? Brother's HL-5350DN costs around £190, has many of the same features and is a bit quicker. Samsung's ML-2855ND is a bit slower, but scrapes in just under £150. However the big difference comes in cost per page, where, including paper costs in all three calculations, the Samsung costs 2.2p, the Brother 2.4p, but the HP 3.4p, a penny more per page than its rivals. Over 10,000 printed pages – a reasonable duty cycle over its life – that’s £100 extra.

Although this monochrome laser printer offers speedy, quality printing for small or home offices, buyers will want to weigh these features against its expensive toner and lack of Wi-Fi interface.

PC World‘s review Edit

The HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn monochrome laser printer aims at small offices and home offices that prize speed. Despite its moderate price ($230 as of August 27, 2010), it delivers plenty of pep, along with good paper handling. Unfortunately, its high toner costs make it a better fit for low-volume users than for high-volume users.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

When your printing needs are modest and your workspace limited, the HP LaserJet P1606dn delivers fast volumes at well above average quality with the added bonus of duplex capability, though its ink running costs are perhaps a little on the high side.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn gives small offices and home offices a potentially valuable speed bump that many low-end lasers can't - as well as better paper-handling features. Unfortunately, it couldn't shake the tendency toward pricey toner that's all too common at this end of the spectrum.
