Buffalo LinkStation Mini LS-WSXL/R1 Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

Cute and neat, the Mini will be a great option for many, but not all, NAS buyers.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The LinkStation Mini puts in a performance that matches its larger competitors. Its price per gigabyte ratio isn't great, but if you shop around you can save quite a bit on the RRP. You can't upgrade or replace the drives without invalidating the warranty, but it's well worth a look.

We are impressed with the size and form-factor of the Buffalo and found it easy to get to grips with the NAS Navigator2 software. On the downside the cost is rather high for a mere 500GB of storage and as the case is sealed there is no option for an upgrade. You'll also be in trouble if the RAID 0 array suffers a problem as you cannot simply replace the drive that has failed.

The Buffalo LinkStation Mini is a unique network-attached-storage drive with a tiny form factor and plenty of useful features. One downside: You must wade through an aged, user-unfriendly interface.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The tiniest of NAS drives, the Buffalo LinkStation Mini keeps up with its full-size competition in terms of both features and performance. However, you'll pay a premium price for this small, silent networked drive.

The LinkStation Mini may not be as fast as larger boxes sporting 3.5in hard disks (it took around one minute 30 seconds to write a 1GB file), and it may not offer quite as much RAID flexibility either. However, it does offer something that no other NAS appliance does - 1TB in a truly tiny chassis. It's also reasonably priced, considering the amount of storage on offer, and that Buffalo has used 7,200rpm SATA notebook drives.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Buffalo's LinkStation Mini combination of RAID storage and NAS functionality makes it an ideal addition to any home router. All the more so thanks to its silent functionality and easy setup. It's a shame that the Web Access function didn't work so well, but it's a feature that once running could prove very useful. As a home server for storing and sharing media around the house we found the Buffalo LinkStation Mini hard to beat.
