Psyko Audio 5.1 PC Gaming Headphones Pro Reviews

www.pcper.com‘s review Edit

After doing a thorough analysis of my notes during performance testing and taking into account the overall features and specifications available with the Psyko 5.1 headphones, I have determined that Psyko's goal to use "sound as a weapon" during FPS gaming is definitely validated through my subjective testing over the past three weeks. I fully enjoyed the 5.1 sound and directional sound capabilities of these headphones, which provided with my with a unique experience that possibly has changed the way I play FPS games forever.

While I applaud the unique approach to sound offered by Psyko with this headset, the fact is that it just doesn’t sound as good as others on the market. The directionality is improved, but at great cost — plus, these headphones are limited to use as surround gaming headphones, whereas virtual surround headphones like the G35 are multi-purpose and in my opinion provide an adequate illusion of surround. If Psyko can improve the sound (and simplify the build and setup) they may have something, but until then there are dozens of better choices for the discerning gamer.

The device is really big. What would be a typical headband is, in fact, the brains of the headset, the place where the air ducts – the “waveguides” – are located. The tubes distribute the sound through the air to the ear cups just like they were some kind of tubular speakers. The inside of the headband is covered by cushioned indentations to better distribute the weight. Yes, the Psyko is heavier than the typical headsets

The Psyko 5.1 Gaming Headset started out on a sour note with me, but after a lot of burn in and some EQ tweaking this headset really started to shine. In the end I wound up really liking the Psyko headset and would have no problem at all recommending it for the Legit Reviews Innovation award.

Well, I expect many of you will be feeling very disappointed now. I certainly am. With the promise of natural-sounding surround sound, mimicking a home cinema speaker system, and a unique design directing sound in a novel way, I was genuinely excited and keen to hear more about the headset, and indeed hear the surround experience it could deliver. They say that what goes up must come down, and my excitement came down steadily throughout the review, despite my efforts to make the headset sound better. I really wanted this headset to sound amazing!

The Psyko Audio Labs 5.1 channel headset offers some really exciting new ideas about how surround information can be delivered. Developing Psykowave proprietary technology as the flagship feature truly makes this headset something quite unique. Plus, the added design feature of building the speakers into the top of the headband chassis allows for two large subwoofers with a vented ear enclosure, which is another key part of making this system work the way it does.
