Sapphire TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E Pro Reviews

Fudzilla‘s review Edit

Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD 4870 card features non-reference dual-slot cooling and higher core and memory clocks. Higher clocks and Toxic Vapor-X cooling do however come at a price and you’ll have to pay around €20 more compared to the reference card’s price. If you want a fast HD 4870 with some powerful cooling, then this card just might strike your chord.

motherboards‘s review Edit

Sapphire has taken an already powerful card in the HD 4870 and overclocked it. The resulting card is nothing less than superb with the extra cooling that the Vapor-X offers I was able to overclock the card to 810MHz for the core and 1100MHz for the memory. Card temperatures reached 72C when under stress and running overclocked but that is not much of a jump from the 65C that the card would exhibit when idle. Turning up the Fan Speed allowed me to run the card overclocked 100% of the time. This card is a very close runner up candidate for and Editors Choice and a few months back it would have won hands down, however the 4870 is starting to show its age as newer faster cards have been released.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

Sapphire's Radeon HD 4870 TOXIC 512MB elevated frequencies give it around a 6 per cent advantage in most tests when compared to a vanilla card, shown by the difference in aggregate framerates across the four games. Sapphire's bundle is better than most other AIBs' so the decision on whether it makes sense for you lies with just how quiet and cool you want a high-end graphics card to be.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

At the end of the day, the Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic Edition is yet another solid card based on the Radeon HD 4870 GPU. It performs up to expectations and while the cooler could do better, it was still a very good one. So unless you are supremely hardcore and spend your days doing nothing else but nitpick on frame-rates, you can't go wrong with the Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic Edition.
