Sapphire HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

As it uses the reference design, Sapphire's card is essentially identical to those from many other manufacturers. At only £205 including VAT, though, this was the cheapest HD 4890 we could find. It's a fantastic graphics card and a great buy if you want to connect your PC to a TV over HDMI, but the award-winning GTX 275 just pips it at the post.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

The Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 OC Edition is a good card from a reputable manufacturer. The upshot is that Sapphire's offering is a touch quicker than the 'regular' OC version and speedy enough to blur the performance gap that exists between it and a basic GeForce GTX 275.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Overall, the HD 4890 is a decent attempt at refreshing and beefing up the high-end spectrum of the Radeon 4800 series. The Sapphire HD 4890 and ASUS EAH4890 are a notch up above the PowerColor HD 4890 because of their slightly better performance and features. The Sapphire HD 4890 comes factory-overclocked and could be pushed all the way to a maximum overclock of 1000MHz at the core and 4800MHz DDR at the memory, which is just incredible.

The HD 4890 is a nice card that looks to have a nice launch price. While NVIDIA are still ultimately the king when it comes to downright performance, ATI continue to offer its users and fans good valued products.

All in all, this evolution of the RV700-series architecture has been a long time coming and I for one think the wait was well worth the end result. Not only does ATI now have a card that bridges the gap between the HD 4870 1GB and the HD 4870 X2 but it has also put the screws to Nvidia as evidenced by their rushed GTX 275 release and its subsequent paper launch. One way or another, competition like this will surely bring down prices at just the right time.
