Sapphire HD5850 1GB GDDR5 Pro Reviews

overclockersclub‘s review Edit

There is quite a bit to say about the two new Sapphire cards coming out, the Sapphire HD5830 Xtreme and the Sapphire HD5850 Xtreme. The first aspect of the HD5800 Xtreme series that I wanted to point out is the fact that at the stock speeds, the temperatures that the cards were able to get were the lowest when compared to all of the other graphics cards that they were compared to. This does give you a great starting point for your next system build if you are trying to keep your system as cool as possible.

If you're looking for a powerful new graphics card, this is the one. It's breathtakingly fast, yet still £100 cheaper than the HD 5870.

ATI has hit a home run with the HD 5800 series as the cards are the fastest single chip solutions on the market for most applications and the full compliance with DirectX 11 allows you to have a sense of future-proofing more than any other card on the market today. You have two choices with the HD 5800 series, the HD 5870 and the HD 5850 both separated by nearly $100. At this moment the cards available are all reference cards with the same core and memory clocks, meaning that the Sapphire card is a good choice for those wanting a no-nonsense ATI card. At $279, the HD 5850 is an excellent buy doubling the performance from the HD 4870 which is no mean feat.

Sapphire's Toxic cards are a popular choice for those seeking an overclocked card out of the box and the HD5850 should only aid that popularity. Not only faster than the reference design, it's just so much quieter in operation, so offering a good blend of performance and low noise. Add to the mix a price that isn't that much more than the standard card and it's hard to find fault with the HD5850 Toxic edition.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

We think you will like this card for super-quiet gaming with most of the eye-candy turned on. You won't like paying an extra £45 for the privilege over a reference card. Worth it, then? That depends entirely upon how you view value. We like it insofar as it betters the basic model in most ways. It can be recommended if it's priced below £270. If not, special-deal HD 5870s will provide better value, assuming you can look past the noisier fan.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Cards outfitted with Sapphire vapor chamber technology coolers have always commanded a premium and the Sapphire HD 5850 Toxic Edition is no different. At S$499, it costs the same as the ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU TOP and therefore significantly more than reference Radeon HD 5850 cards. Fortunately, it is backed up competitive performance, and the cooler is easily the most effective of the trio, allowing it to attain outstanding overclocking results.

After looking at the HD 5870 so many times I was feeling pretty confident that ATI were going to deliver with the HD 5850. The good news is they did. Really, like the HD 5870 we can see for the most part it's able to pull out a win against the GTX 285 which is NVIDIAs top single GPU graphics card.

The HD 5850 in itself is a good model so we know straight away that the performance we receive is going to be strong. Throw in a decent overclock like Sapphire has done and performance becomes only better.

hardwarecanucks‘s review Edit

In our opinion, the Sapphire HD 5850 is truly a card to be reckoned with since it incorporates near-HD 5870 performance into a package which is smaller, more efficient and quite affordable to boot. No, you won’t have the jaw-dropping performance of ATI’s flagship single chip card but considering the positioning of many of today’s most popular games, the horsepower offered by the HD 5870 won’t be put to good use even in a high-end gaming system.

If you are looking for excellent performance and a quiet cooler that performs miracles while not putting a serious dent in your bank account, you don’t have to look any further than this card.
