So how do the SE535s sound? Superb. Feed them a high-quality file and you will be astounded by the performance. Fresh details emerge in well-worn tracks, and you’ll be thrilled by the pace and precision of the performance. Start with Crystal Castle’s scattershot Empathy, and the snap of the electronic clap is tight and dynamic – and when it’s joined by the assortment of other effects, each is perfectly placed, both rhythmically and spatially. Switch to the smooth production of Fleetwood Mac’s Rhiannon and the SE535s respond with a fluid, flowing, open presentation that’s tonally spot-on. From the bass to the treble, everything is balanced, detailed and controlled.

Engadget‘s review Edit

$500 headphones aren't for everyone -- and admittedly, you need to be something of an audiophile to have even made it this far into the review, much less consider ever owning a product like the SE535. That said, it's not hype and these aren't expensive just for the sake of being expensive: you will, against all odds, get what you pay for with these things.

Anyone looking for ultracompact headphones with top-notch sound quality should consider the Shure SE530 Sound Isolating Earphones. This set will cost you a pretty penny, but it'll be worth it.

If you have something over £400 to spend on a pair of earphones, cost be damned, then the Shure SE535s are without a doubt the best you can buy and we recommend them unreservedly. If you're constrained by budget, however, then the SE530 earphones, available for over £150 less, are a better buy - just hurry to grab them before they're out of stock.
