We like the speed of the Dell Studio XPS 8000 and think it's a potent PC for home use or for a small office. However, its design isn't as good as we'd we're used to seeing from machines that brandish the XPS letters. Its internal layout is cramped and awkward, its external design is too glossy and assumes you'll want to place it on the floor instead of up high, and upgrades through Dell will be very expensive. That said, if you don't foresee yourself wanting to upgrade, you have no problems with the design of the case, and you want a potent PC for your family, then the Studio XPS 8000 is a good option.

Dell combined great performance, an attractive design, and noteworthy extras to create the Studio XPS 8000. We only wish it were slightly less expensive and had better upgradability.

Dell was one of the first mainstream computer manufacturers to break out of the mold and strike new territory in terms of interesting designs and attractive cases. The Studio XPS is a new chapter in that story, featuring Dell's recent trend toward white electronics mixed with glossy black plastic, powered with Intel's newest Core i5 processor technology.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit Like Unlike

The Dell XPS 8000 (SX8000-1479UWH) is Dell's multimedia powerhouse desktop. It's a little light in the 3D performance, but it's got Core i5 power you need to get your video and photo projects done quickly. That said, there are other choices.
