Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

It works, but slow transfer speeds and a drab user interface make this NAS a distinctly average option

PC Pro‘s review Edit

Iomega gave us access to a unit running the latest beta firmware that adds AFP protocol support, remote access, DDNS and a BitTorrent server, and these improvements will be available by the time you read this. Despite this, the StorCenter ix2 is unremarkable. Performance is average, and other drives such as Netgear's Duo offer more comprehensive features for slightly more cash.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The IX2 model is better equipped than its forbear. Features include an integrated BitTorrent client and a basic Remote Access feature, which is free for the first year but then requires a subscription. The Torrent client is lightweight but effective. Streaming HD media was problem free, and the IX2 is a good deal faster than its predecessor. In a networked home entertainment system, you need a NAS to be visible, quiet and, above all, easy to use. This Iomega unit ticks all three boxes. It's also well built, offers drive redundancy and throws in some cool extras.

The Iomega StorCenter ix2 gives you 1TB of network storage and is easy to manage. But it lacks some user-friendly features found on other NAS devices.

reghardware‘s review Edit

Despite the somewhat reduced transfer speeds, at £310 for the 2TB version, the StorCenter ix2-200 comes slightly cheaper than the competition. The Synology box may sell for £160, but you have to supply your own disks. So for the paranoid Nas user on a budget who needs the reliability of Raid 1 to keep their CCTV footage safe, the Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 is just what you need. Tin-foil hat not included.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS server makes a good, affordable backup and storage center for home and small office environments where only simple file sharing and data backup are needed. Keep looking for alternatives if you want more advanced NAS features.

MacNN‘s review Edit

Overall, the ix2-200 provides a healthy set of features compared to many of the other NAS systems available on the market. All of the functions worked just as well on Windows or Mac machines. Most of the features are geared for use in a SOHO environment, especially for buyers seeking an affordable option with modest capacities ranging from 1TB to 4TB.
