ASUS EAH3870/HTDI/512M Pro Reviews

computershopper‘s review Edit

Like the HD 3850, this HD 3870-based card offers unmatched performance in its price range—but its price is close to that of the faster GeForce 8800 GT.

At last there is a competitor for Nvidia's mighty GeForce 8800GT, and a well priced one at that. But the performance of the factory-overclocked EAH3870, however close to the 8800GT, still can't knock the king of the mid-range cards off its perch.

The card is good, there’s no denying that and it’s a decent purchase for someone who wanted an AMD offering and was looking at the HD 2900 XT. The bottom line though is that it’s not fantastic, which is okay, the price is good and little things like the quieter fan, HDMI convertor and DX10.1 support make it a more attractive card for some people but as a straight out performer it’s just good.

It is a great card which has more tricks up its sleeve than David Copperfield but it faces an uphill battle when it comes to the price you pay for pure unadulterated gaming performance. That doesn’t stop it from being a potential multimedia powerhouse which is something almost none of the Nvidia cards in this price range can attest to. All in all, if you are looking for an all-round good performer with a lengthy warranty, HDMI output and the ability to run Folding@Home, this card should be near the top of your list.
