While the Geforce 9600GT isn't quite fast enough to be a killer gaming card on its own anymore, the Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI can hold its own in games that aren't especially shader-intensive. For $150 CDN ($110 USD, £80GBP) the Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI Silent Cell has made itself a very easy choice for those looking to build or upgrade a home theatre PC. Users who are also more concerned with a silent PC rather than bleeding-edge gaming performance should also give this card a closer look. The Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI videocard has solid performance, excellent power efficiency and best of all it's completely silent.

From a pure performance point of view the GIGABYTE GV-N96TSL-1GI video card is not the fastest card in its price range. Where this card excels however is in the temperature rating it gets idle (52C) and under normal stress conditions (62C). These temperatures are far lower than equivalent video cards with high speed noisy fans. The GIGABYTE card is excellent for the HTPC with two PCI slots as the card makes no noise (no fan) and uses little power. This card can also be used in a two card SLI system making performance near 9800GTX levels with no noise. The ability of the card to output to a monitor at 1920x1080 with 85HZ refresh rate makes this card ideal for a HTPC owner wanting to attach a HDTV to their computer with the HDMI connector.

I wouldn't recommend them for anything over 1920x1200, but they are more than adequate for gaming at lower resolutions. I would also recommend these cards for those building home theater PCs because they both have native HDMI on board and should give users smooth DVD and Blu-ray playback.
