Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 Pro Reviews

itreviews‘s review Edit

With the advent of 'micro four-thirds' cameras - a standard that allows compacts with mirrorless, interchangeable lenses - we're not entirely sure what the appeal of 'bridge' cameras are anymore, except to those not wanting to embrace the new tech until it's established, or actively wanting to avoid the possibility of additional lenses. That said, we like this travel-friendly camera's flexible LCD screen and video options, as well as 90 per cent of its stills. As an all-rounder it's relatively bulky but brilliantly made, and the flexible super-zoom camera is highly appealing - especially at the rock-bottom prices we've seen recently online.

PC Pro‘s review Edit

The FZ100’s zoom lens may not have the reach of some rivals, but it delivers where it matters: image quality. That, combined with a decent roster of features, top quality movies and a better screen than its brother, the FZ45, means its our favourite superzoom camera right now, and well worth the £330 asking price.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

We'd like to reiterate that using the Panasonic FZ100 is a whole lot of fun, and if you're only producing small images, you're probably going to be happy, but for the rest of the enthusiasts who love the FZ series, image quality is low enough that unless you're only uploading images to the Web or shooting at 4x6, you're going to be disappointed. This may be the first Panasonic long zoom to not earn a Dave's Pick.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

If you can live with the FZ100's image quality though (or are happy to tweak the settings), it's undoubtedly a very impressive camera, and don't forget while the MOS sensor is responsible for these problems, it's also the technology behind the 1080i video and very quick burst shooting. Sadly you still can't have it all. The choice is yours, but make sure you understand the FZ100's limitations before buying on specification alone. We can recommended it, but with reservations.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

As long as you're willing to work with raw image files, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is one of the best full-size megazooms you can get.

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The FZ100 is Panasonic's most ambitious ultra-zoom camera to date. Not content with the slew of awards its previous FZ-series models have earned at Expert Reviews and elsewhere, this one takes on all challengers in virtually every department. It records video at 1080p resolution, takes photos at 11fps and has a 24x zoom lens, an articulated screen and a hotshoe for an external flash or microphone.

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

On paper the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is impressive—14MP, a 24x wide-angle zoom, up to 11 fps, AVCHD videos. Sounds cool, right? Too bad the image and video quality doesn’t measure up—especially with a hefty list price. You can do a lot better.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

If you can stomach the price, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is certainly a lot of still and video camera for the money, offering a relatively compact all-in-one solution that will more than satisfy most photographer's needs.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The Panasonic FZ100 is an impressive camera, with superior build quality, excellent handling, fast performance and a range of features better than almost anything else on the market. If you're looking for an all-purpose camera with high-quality full HD video it's worth considering, but less-than-stellar still image quality and limited battery duration are causes for concern.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

It's not cheap and has a plastic feel, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100's video record button is awkwardly positioned. But the broad focal range is ideal for landscapes, close-ups and everything in between. Offering full HD video and stereosound, with a zoom accessible for movies, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 offers excellent picture quality with vibrant colours.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Lumix range has consistently impressed us, and, if we hadn't recently tested a truck load of alternative big zoom cameras - the Fujifilm HS10, Pentax X90, Kodak Z981, Olympus SP-800UZ et al - our feelings for Panasonic's DMC-FZ100 might have been a little kinder. Its closest competitor is probably Nikon's P100. But it's more expensive than all the above models and lacks the manual focus ring and zoom ring of the Fujifilm, which we really liked, plus it also can't quite compete with its more solid-feel build. So while we can't recommend it to you as the best big zoom option for the money, there are other positives.
