If you're running a small business and really want a machine that can replace a lot of desktop equipment, the MFC-990CW fits the bill. While its print quality and speed are no better than other Brother all-in-ones, having a phone, answering machine, fax, scanner, copier and of course a photo/doc printer all in one compact device could be very appealing. Just be aware that it's a bit of a jack of all trades…

If you know what you're looking for when considering this machine and its compactness and multi-function design are paramount, you won’t be disappointed. The inclusion of a DECT phone and answering machine is handy, and the touchscreen is worthwhile. In comparison with mainstream all-in-ones, though, it's performance is far from outstanding.

You’ll like the Brother MFC-990CW more for its vast range of features than its sizzling performance – given the asking price, you can get better photo and text printers then this one. But with its range of fax, phone and photo-friendly features, its functionality may earn it a warm reception in the right environment.

The Brother MFC-990CW is a speedy, fully capable all-in-one device that earns our recommendation for an individual or a family that will make use of its touch screen and telephone/answering machine. Mechanical issues notwithstanding, this is the highest-scoring Brother printer we've tested to date.
