Samsung LE40C650L1K Pro Reviews

hdtvtest‘s review Edit

In terms of contrast performance and overall picture depth, the Samsung LE40C650 is one of the best LCD HDTVs we’ve ever reviewed, and indeed is even better than some Plasma displays. The addition of 10-point Greyscale configuration is a fantastic addition to Samsung’s already comprehensive set of picture setup controls, and is one of the reasons why the LE40C650 calibrated so wonderfully, with ruler-flat Greyscale and Gamma tracking (and let’s not forget the highly accurate colour reproduction). All of these traits resulted in very realistic, satisfying video. LCD buyers who have been left disappointed with the contrast performance of other displays will find a lot to like with the Samsung LE40C650′s deep blacks and satisfying image… it only narrowly misses a “Highly Recommended” rating for the reasons cited above.

The quality is only standard-definition, but the Samsung does a good job of upscaling it fairly cleanly. Finally, there’s the sound, which, although thin, is rhythmic and clear for the class and rounds out a performance that easily outclasses the asking price.

Samsung’s LE40C650 is a good looking and well featured TV with impressive picture quality. At £620, you get a lot for your money and it’s a worthy Budget Buy award winner.

The LE40C650 thankfully proves that Samsung hasn’t become so obsessed with LED that it’s forgotten about its CCFL LCD sets. The LE40C650 is for the most part a really excellent picture performer that delivers some of the most cinematic, contrast rich pictures yet seen using CCFL lighting - and at a great price, to boot. It’s also rich in features and calibration aids, with really its only big weakness - if you’re a console gamer - being its apparent input lag. We wouldn’t describe this as severe enough to necessarily spoil single-player games, but it definitely affected us online.

Best-in-class connectivity options and media playback make this a great choice for anyone who wants to go beyond just watching TV.

Well presented Freeview HD software and useful compatibility with DivX HD files meets a rather busy Internet video platform. Add those to some blur-free, lively and contrast-heavy HD and SD pictures, and here's a great value 40-inch TV that proves there's life in "standard" LCD yet.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The LE40C650's lowly position in Samsung's range is misleading and proof of just how far flat TVs have come in recent times; this is a very fine flatscreen indeed.
