The feature-packed S605 combines impressive print quality with a good turn of speed and low running costs, and it's even fun to use, which you can't say about most printers. On top of that, the average online purchase price has also now dropped to about half the launch price, making it a real bargain.

This is a good, well featured all-in-one printer, whose touchscreen control has plenty of promise. As the SmartSolutions library grows, it could become a valuable extension to the functions available on this and other Lexmark printers supporting it. This gives the S605 tangible benefits, even if the rest of the machine offers very similar features and performance to other printers in the range.

This all-in-one turns out documents and photos at respectable speeds and offers some fresh ideas, but don’t mistake it for a photo printer. It's meant purely for small-business and personal-document printing.

The Lexmark Interact S605 color inkjet multifunction printer avoids being just another $200 (as of May 22, 2010) printer/scanner/copier by including a 4.3-inch color LCD touchscreen for its control panel (think iPod Touch or iPhone). Unfortunately, that embellishment doesn't fully compensate for the machine's pricey inks and other shortcomings. Overall, the HP Officejet 6500 Wireless is a better deal in the same price range.

With its good design, fast print speeds and enticing touch-screen display, it's hard not to be impressed by the Interact S605. However, it struggles to produce high-quality photo prints, which is disappointing considering the price. And although the Smart Solutions tool is an interesting addition, it desperately needs more available widgets in order to be a success.

In many ways, the S605 is a capable printer. The Wi-Fi support, individual ink tanks, 3 year warranty, and long list of added extras may not be dealmakers individually, but combined they could be enough to sway some at the price point. That said, with the touchscreen as the major interface between users and the printer, the experience can be particularly frustrating.

The print quality and good solid print, scan, and copy functionality make this a good All-in-One. The wireless networking was easy to set up, but Lexmark obviously has some problems with their interconnectivity.
